I hand wash mine cold with Persil, Woolite or the Co-op version, short spin and hung over a drying rack with enough air circulation. I also use a wash in proofer in the final rinse, which is very successful. The house smells of damp dog for awhile, but wet wool does smell like that.

Was a bit nippy yesterday morning so wore a 'bone' roll neck WP as in my avatar. Interestingly I saw that OKW Ghillie roll neck has a great triangular patch to re-inforce the neck to shoulder area / seam. Wish they would do the same with the cheaper roll necks, as it helps hold the shape better...

Very nice. I have a roll neck in a similar style knit - bought on ebay, but I think is a copy of the M1905 jumper. The wool has a hardwearing texture to it and the long roll neck might have driven it's previous owner to part with it.

Am not an expert, but here's the label of the 1965 version and one that had a much shorter 4.5in collar (H.K Ltd). There's no mention of NSN on either, even if the numbers are and the boat neck navy smocks often meantion just 'Nato Stock' (see the Turner and Jarvis label) I've had at least 11...

Acquired a nice vintage brown Woolyback jumper with suede patches recently for peanuts. It was unworn, but suede doesn't give me any issues, just needs to be hand washed in woolite, or similar handwashing silk / wool liquid. Have just seen this nice looking WWII type seamans smock jumper on...

By fuddy duddy I mean boring and old fashioned - not hip or geeky. Having seen the Ghille version - it's not bad looking as the patches are functional.

Agree with you about the traditional military style. To be frank, I doubt they'll sell well - look very fuddy-duddy to me and the pricing is too high for that market. The addition of Harris Tweed doesn't make them very desirable either.
