My latest purchase is these silver and black spectator pumps :D http://mollyn.co.nz:81/products/view/297 I bought mine from thier store but as they have mail order on their site they may be able to ship overseas (prices are in New Zealand dollars).

    Show us your vintage patterns!

I found the sizing to be slightly on the larger side for me, but have heard that a lot of people find them a bit on the small side. Best thing would be to trace off the pattern and make up a muslin from an old sheet first to test the pattern.

    Show us your vintage patterns!

Reconstructing History now do 1940s patterns Reconstructing History are now doing a mid-20th century range of sewing patterns. https://www.reconstructinghistory.com/patterns.php?c=22&d=198&w=24&r=Y Word of warning though, I have used thier historical patterns for 17th century re-enactment...

    Actually Wearing Vintage Makeup?

While I would not want to put it on my face, I might consider taking vintage makeup with me to a department store and applying a small amount to the back of my hand so I could match up the colour to a nice new one.

    Preserving Lipsticks

Just when you find the perfect lipstick it seems almost inevitable that the company discontinue it  so at times I have had an urge to buy 5 of a particular colour I love especially if it is a limited edition, so I was wondering if any of you ladies know of a good way to store lipstick long...

What is your favorite red lipstick brand/shade?

At the moment I am in love with Lipstick Queen's http://www.lipstickqueen.com/index.htm Red Sinner and Red Saint lipsticks. It's the same shade of 40s red but the Sinner formula is a matte 90% pigment formula and the Saint formula is a sheer 10% pigment (more like a balm) formula, perfect for...

    Vintage Christmas Tree

Our family's Christmas tree. The tree itself was bought for my Mother's first Christmas in 1937 along with the celluloid strawberry (below). Sadly the rest of the original ornaments have been lost or brioken. Most of the other ornaments are from the 1950s - present day. It amazes...

So which era of clothing do you like best?

I like to see men wearing 1930s -1940s styles, although late 1940s - 1950s for the beach is nice. My personal wardrobe is mainly 1940s - mid 1950s styles as I feel I don't look nice in most 20s or 30s styles having a waist/hip ratio of more than 10 inches... slim bias cuts look awful on me :(

    Whirling Turban

My new Whirling Turban dress arrived neatly packaged in a little box tied with string this morning just like in those photos of ladies shopping at couture houses in the 1950s - and it's wonderful! The yellow and green floral print reminded me of Scarlett O'Hara's barbeque dress so I just had to...

    The Vintage Fur Thread

I don't mind buying certain kinds of new fur if I know where it has come from. In many places animals such as rabbits, possums (Australia/NZ), mink, coypu and grey squirrels (UK) are culled to reduce population numbers or remove them completely if they are threatening endangered species in the...

    How tall are you, Ladies?

I'm 4'11", or as one friend always tells me "same height as Veronica Lake". Have no idea if that is true or not though (I think he has a crush Veronica ;)) The only downside of being a bit short is having to alter nearly everything! So far the biggest challenge has been unpicking and...

If you ever visit New Zealand...

Apologies if this is in the wrong space, but as it involves food and wine: Auckland now has a new 1930s themed restaurant http://www.nzherald.co.nz/wine/news/article.cfm?c_id=365&objectid=10532673 Looks like this might just be the venue for my birthday!

    Girdles, Corsets, and Underpinnings

Bespoke Lingerie GreyAndWhiteCat, Rigby and Peller do made to measure items http://www.rigbyandpeller.com/company/made_to_measure.aspx though I imagine they would be very expensive.

    Show Us Your Purchases!

Blondie, as well as my new Ditas (above) I also have the Betty style in green and have found both these styles to be very comfortable. The measurements they give on thier size charts are accurate too. When ordering from overseas sites in general I always go by the measurements given on the size...
