Hey Jan, great jacket :) Did you order from the German shop or from the USA? I ask because I'm interested in a Cockpit too but I'm currently in Europe.
I think some pictures of that Rothco would be very appreciated :) You can't find nothing better for the buck.
Alpha used to be an original US Army contractor but now it has turn into a fashion brand. They make a thinner version of the N-2b and N-3b, some people say that they are not that warm.
If I'm not wrong, early N jackets had a layer of wool in the inside and were quite heavy. At some point, wool was replaced with nylon but these jackets still were meeting military specs.
I really like both, N-2B and N-3B. However, nowadays it is quite difficult to find a real one made by a real US contractor. Most of the jackets you can find are chinese rip offs, not as warm as they should be.
Ok, thanks for the answer :)
Regarding that -40F tag, yes, original N-3Bs were made for extreme cold weather but they were heavier and stuffed with wool under the nylon layers. You actually can't go with a current Alpha N-3B and -40F outside because it's more a fashion garment than a real ECW...
Hey Normanf;
Is it warm under 10-15F? I've been looking for a N-3B but most of replicas out there are not good for real extreme cold weather and I didn't take the plunge. I wonder why real army contractors like Greenbrier or Lancer are not available anywhere.
I lately like a lot Drake's cardigan;

but it's more expensive than an Aero HH jacket :( Is Black Sheep's collar wider or thinner?
Hey Andrew;
Thanks for posting the pics :) I own the 23382 repro by Eastman leather. It's like watching my jacket but 50 years older and it looks way better. One of my favourite contracts, alongside the Werber contract.
I agree. I have a fonzy/dominator style suede jacket and a suede shirt. Suede is beautiful as long as you keep it brand new. I only wear suede when I'm very sure it's not going to rain.
A lot of early A-2s had ultra narrow shoulders. Didn't pilots practice any sport back then but smoking, drinking and playing cards? I'm quite wide at shoulders too and I'm done with historically accurate A-2s. My next one will be custom made with a warm liner, inner pockets and soft leather...
