Not sure if your price is too high but I do know that its very easy to trima brim down. Just use a pair of sharp scissors and a little sandpaper to finish it off. You might also find that gently steaming a curl into the sides of the brim might make it suit your face better.
I don't know Borsalinos. I had read that the serial numbers gave the year of manufacture but if it is older so much the better. Do you have an idea on its age?

after all that soaking you didn't need a reblock? what did you do with the ribbon and sweatband? it would seem to me that boiling a hat would ruin its shape
