Hey there, so I am in need of a haircut and am looking to get a cut that can be then easily styled into a rita hayworth or jane russel 'do.
I am in San Francisco & kinda new to the city. Does anyone have any recommendations for salons/stylists that are aware of vintage 'dos to go to??

I'm searching as well. I don't understand why there hasn't been any replies yet!

My hairstylist left the area 3 yrs ago and I keep trying new people, not liking any of htem. The last one really messed up my bangs. I have let them grow, tried to fix them myself and now need to get them fixed ASAP because I'm going out of town next week.

I think I'm going to try Glama-rama over in the Mission. I'll let you know how it goes.

I've gone to the salon in the Crocker Galleria on Post St. The gentleman I've gone to is Kai. He's done my hair 5 times now, each time its looked amazing. Check out my current avatar pic- that's day two of the last styling he did for me. He specializes in vintage hairdos of the Art Deco era and 1940s. He's great! He doesn't work M-W, but is there Thu-Sat.

Also for your consideration, there is a stylist who works at Acabello Salon, (415) 922-7577; 2423 California St.; (between Fillmore and Steiner), named Wade. I used to go to him when he'd come down the coast for a few days each month and work here in town. Lots of his clients still go to SF for him, although not all are vintage style afficionados. Wade loves his work and wants his clients to look good. He'll work with your hair and if you want a specific period style, he can do it. Just be ready for lots of compliments. I always suggest visiting a salon and watching the stylist or talking to them before making an appointment. If they're too busy to do that or cop an attitude, then I cross them off my list.

Today I had an appt with Deena of Glama Rama. Thank the gods she "gets" rockabilly! She knew exactly what I was asking for and did a fab job. I just wanted a longer version of a middy, and my bangs fixed from another salons choppped up attempt.

My hair looks fab, and I'm definately going back to her. The shop is on South Van Ness at 15th in the Mission.

There is a lady named Shelly At tanforan JCP salon in San bruno/south san francisco. She is really sweet and great at styles. When i have the extra money and something coming up, she is the first person i go to. Very much love her.

I have an appt tomorrow with Summer of Pure Beauty in SF. She supposedly specializes in vintage do's and shampoo and sets! I am pretty excited. I'll let you ladies know how it goes.

Good to know about Glam-a-rama. They are really close to my house and I was going to go to them until I heard about this Summer gal!

Miss Summer at Pure Beauty

I was just about to let you guys know about Miss Summer over at Pure Beauty in Laurel Village when I saw DollyDahl's post...how did it go?? She dropped off some flyers at the vintage shop I work at and she specializes in 40s and 50s styles, for men, women, and children. She also does roller sets, pincurls, fingerwaves, and updos.
