My daughters middle name is Adriana, which is a family name and one I have always though to be classic as well.

I changed my name in 2007 to Cecil Hotbake. I guess cecil is vintage, but not as a girls name. Hotbake is a pretty pornstar surname.

If go with the pet/street name method my porn star name would be Bianca Hannan. Funny, it's a lot less odd than my real name. Haha.

For myself, I would keep my middle and surname. However, I would change my first name to Thomas (Tom), as that is my father's name, which I like and it also has a vintage feel to it.

When it comes to children I wanted to go REALLY old school and call mine Persephone and Lucius. (Old Roman names I believe) but the Mr. vetoed it. probably wisely when it comes to the school yard. My two ended up with Golden Era names that suit their dramatic personalities well.

As for me, those of you who read my writing/blog will know my name. I'm Candice DeVille. And it suits me to a T!

Coming from a 100% Irish family - All the girls have the first name Mary.
We all go by our middle names, But It's a generations old tradition that hasn't been broken yet (With the exception of a couple Reginas and Maries, which mean the same thing) This seems fairly old-fashioned to me, and Mary is a timeless name.
My mother's family is Italian and they follow the same tradition. Only the oldest sister of any generation is called some form of Mary (Maria, Marie, Mimi, ect)

I guess if I had to take on a new name, it would be similar to my screen name on the automotive sites I go to. My screen name there is hot ford coupe. When you fiddle with the name, I come up with Hartford Cooper. Sounds like a writer or a golden era actor. Either that or a WWII fighter pilot. Capt Hartford Cooper of the 78th FG at your service. lol :eusa_clap

I've always been partial to Nastassia (or Nastassja), but after having seen Svengali I'm digging the name Trilby (I didn't know the hat was named after the character!). :)

I actually have an opportunity to change my name as far as the public is concerned, as stage names are rather common practice, and I have given it some thought.
My first couple names are rather vintage sounding, John Thomas, if bit boring, though they do go well with my surname (I don't think I have said it here, so I don't think I shall at the moment.)

I have thought about changing my surname, which is scotch-irish, from my father's side, to one of the Italian names from my mother's side. (the Italians were the most recent immigrants in my family and being an opera singer, one is expected to be italian [grins cheekily]). If I go back a couple generations maternally, I get a great name: Vasti.

However, I don't plan to take a Italian given name, so people don't think that I am trying to pretend that I am actually from Italy. I think that "John Vasti" has a nice ring to it, and if I do take a stage name, that will probably be it.

I would be a bit careful with John Thomas, as it is slang for something (heard not-so-famously in The Road to Wellville)...vintage slang, to be sure, but slang nevertheless...

Vasti's got a ring to it :)
