New Stetson Panama
Made a trip to the St. Joseph Stetson Outlet store yesterday. They were busy! There was a good selection of straw fedoras, along with a limited number of felts. I was tempted by a lovely 100% beaver felt in 7 1/2 for $100, but ended up with two straws.
This is the nicer one. It was $75. The sweat says "GENUINE SHANTUNG PANAMA". It has a couple of features I love. Fist is the beige leather sweat band. Second is the liner. I don't know if it shows up in the photos, but the sides of the liner are breathable mesh. The hat is very light and comfortable. I wet the front of the brim a bit to get it to stay down. The size is a large 7 1/2, and it's conforming to my long oval head very nicely.

There isn't really any such thing as "genuine" Shantung Panama. It's either real straw or it isn't. At least Stetson is honest about it, and uses the word "Shantung" rather than trying to pass off a paper hat as a genuine toquilla fiber Panama hat. That said, that's a very nice hat, and you got it for a good price. You can get genuine Panamas for that price, but they'll generally have a cotton sweatband instead of a nice leather one like yours does.

Antique Store Score....
I found these 3 hats at an antique store today. I'm disappointed as to how few mens hats there were there.....the place was Ginormous. I found a Champ felt, looks to be from the 40's perhaps, a nice Adam Straw, and a cool Boater that even though I stated I would probably never own one, I couldn't pass it up. I'm hoping someone can shed some light on it, because I scoured the net and came up with nadda about it or the manufacturer.
Champ....needs a good cleaning, but a nice find.

And finally this Skimmer that was made in Switzerland. I need some help on this one fellas. You guys seem to amazingly find out so much about these hidden gems, so I need your help.
Here's the crest, I cant seem to make out what it says, the cursive lettering is very fancy and cant seem to make it out. I snapped some pics the best I could. Hopefully someone will be able to see it better than me.

I won a Dobbs boater that looked exactly like this one (except no ribbon)
on eBay a couple of months ago for under $30. It never came in, though, apparently lost in the mail. The seller gave me a refund at least, but I really wanted that hat.

Dave, I really like the Christys Adventure. I like the style and also the color. On my monitor the color burma looks like light brown. Is that a correct description of the color? That is a beautiful and practical hat. I can't believe it was only $75.00. And with a sweatband and liner. Great buy!!!!

Yep, a light/mid brown with a hint of grey (to my eyes) in it. On my monitor, the colour in the pic is pretty much true to life. I did get mine from Hornets Hats. All I've done to it is steam it to get some snap on the brim at the front and put a kind of telescoped diamond/teardrop crease into the crown. They are pretty tall crowned out of the box.
