Sizes over time...

Forgot to mention that the only Akubras I have had difficulty with over time - at least in terms of hat size and sweatband - have been the Squatter and the Military Slouch and I honestly believe that was the result of their not being worn as regularly. I've no longer got the Squatter, but keep a stretcher in the Slouch now. The ones I wear fairly regularly have not shrunk significantly once broken in.

Camp Draft Help and Advice Needed

New hat buzz hasn't worn off yet and so I want to order another before I come to my senses.

Can anyone confirm that the bluegrass green in size 60 is definately out of stock at Everything Australian? They haven't responded and I get mixed messages so am unsure.

My other choice would be to order the grey one from Hats Direct. My intention is a simple center crease. I'd like to have a wider crown ribbon for it - can anyone advise on how I would get ribbon to match? I'm not sure how mixing crown and brim ribbon colors would look and I'd like to avoid having to replace the brim ribbon. I'd be fine leaving the narrow crown ribbon if that's what I have to do, but would prefer a wider ribbon. Also, I do not want the Federation IV - I want a snap brim.

I can't confirm it for sure, but it definitely says on their website that they're sold out. Since it's a limited edition, I wouldn't think they'd be getting any more in. You can always go to hatsdirect.com, but yeah, I'd want to order from EA if I could, if only because it's cheaper.

You could always try a Christies' Adventurer w/ custom alterations from Hornets Hats. They seem quite accommodating in my experience. And the ₤ seems to be rather weak now against the $.
And FWIW I have a few vintage lids w/ contrasting (i.e. different colored) brim binding & ribbon.

The pulldown tab says in stock - BUT the comment at the bottom is clearly SOLD OUT. I guess thats a popular color those limiteds, and he gets the same question day after day...so hence the non-reply. Those guys would also benefit by not having everythingaustralian.com.au as an address, as there is another everythingaustralian.com...they must get mixed up!? Or maybe mutually beneficial!?

BLUEGRASS IN STOCK!

Just got a response from Everything Australian. The Bluegrass Camp Draft ARE JUST NOW BACK IN STOCK! At least in size 60, which is what I asked. They will be updating their webpage in a few days, they told me.

Whew, didn't have to ask for Poofter Taupe after all.

Thanks for all the other advice, it's not wasted - maybe this fall I will get a grey fedora of some flavor. BTW, I happened to rent Public Enemies last night and noted that a brim ribbon which matches the felt and a crown ribbon of a contrasting color does actually look good. In that case it was a light grey body and brim ribbon and black band. And as already noted, it's not an uncommon practice.

Ain't easy wearing green...

Many thanks. Now I wish I still had my soft-tailored green tweed jacket. Wonder if it might still be in Lost and Found decades later.

As for your exclusivity, maybe the dye lot is different enough that it won't compare to yours! Or, just consider it my attempt to be more like you.

In truth, I've wanted a green hat for a long, long time. I had a Stetson Tyrolian once but never looked good in it. I suspect the source of the inspiration was the nursery man I saw as a kid, bringing in the new Christmas trees to his lot for sale. It's an image I've never forgotten and he was wearing a green hat. As for what will become of this one, I really don't know. I have all the fittings for a Tyrolian and have wanted a wider brimmed one. I also have some imitation fir branch decorations I've been saving for the right hat. And a puggaree. So who knows, for a while it will stay relatively non-descript until it settles into my wardrobe! I was just reading an ad describing the pine-green Stetson Stratoliner, so won't rush into any decisions. Just glad to finally be awaiting one.

Beautiful

Great color and beautiful finish to the felt. I actually like the ribbon better than the self band - creates a little more contrast and raises it up a notch in my personal opinion.

Bluegrass Green Arrives

It took from February to April, but the big sizes finally arrived. I had it come to the office since EA requires a signature. Everyone freaked out when I pulled it out of the box and the first thing I did was karate chop it down the middle.

"You mean you shape it yourself?" hehe

I tried to white balance but it picked up a lot of brown from the cube walls.

Yeah, I started a beard. Two weeks into it and the clerk at the grocery asked me if I was eligible for the senior citizen discount. Then he asked if I wanted to give $1 to help Jerry's Kids. I took a pass...

Now that's a HAT

That's a good looking hat and you've done quite well in my estimation. There's a quality to your crease I can't quite describe that I like - maybe it's that you've avoided pinching the front. Though my haberdasher always got mad at me, I've always ended up pinching the front to a point.
