Imagine CSI meets The Untouchables. This is a chronology of true short stories of poisoning, both accidental and deliberate, investigated by pioneering medical examiners in New York City from around 1910 through 1935. In those days, poisons such as thallium, cyanide, arsenic, radium, lead, methyl alcohol and mercury were in everyday products. Coroners knew little about detecting poisons in cadavers--until Dr. Charles Norris and his staff changed city policies, performed thousands of experiments, and wrote a steady stream of research papers.

Whether you like reading about chemistry, medicine, murder, trials, political machinations, Prohibition, the Gilded Age, the Jazz Age, New York City, Bowery bums or beautiful people, I think this book will interest you.

"There are mornings," Deborah Blum writes, "lit by the cold winter light, when I start talking about a poison in my book, revealing my own dangerous expertise, and as I do, I watch my husband quietly, not really thinking about it, slide his cup out of my reach."

It figures that Chuck Norris (MD) would be involved in this.

So while most of you are sleeping let me continue. I believe that those days they knew much more about recipes poisons. It was an appropriate industry - how to poison a potential victim with minimal risk to be unmusked.
