I hope ya'all can help!
I'm attending a Hangar Dance in October and would love to wear a military uniform.
http://www.vintageflyingmuseum.org/events.htm

However, I have not researched uniforms for women. I have gone civilian in the past.
What are a few good resources for my research?
Where would I find uniforms?
I'm open to anything(Army,Navy,Red Cross).

Thanks in advance!

xoxo,
Ruby

I hope you find what your looking for, I think I have a link in my laptop and will post later, I would enjoy going to the Oct event, time will tell. I'm still trying to put together a uniform myself.
Trouble is finding green dress coat, I am also looking for photographer’s emblems, pins to go with uniform, Eastmenleather does not carry officers coats, any help, info would be grateful.
Can’t go as Indiana Jones with crusher cap ;)

I'd love to hook up sometime for vintage shopping. That outfit from Revamp has always been one of my faves. It's got to be one their best sellers. There's at least one at every Hangar dance.

Hey then, I'll PM you my cell number so maybe we can hook up. The Bingstress (Leslie), who used to publish the Atomic magazine lives here in Dallas too. Maybe she'd want to join us. I'm pretty free from now until the end of July. Once August hits, I'm working full time during the week. I'm definitely considering going to the hangar dance (although I don't know how to swing dance).

Great site!

I've also been looking for some a summer uniform that dosn't cost an arm and a leg. I'd probably just go enlisted and save some $$.

I'm a bit late to this thread but wanted to jump in here. I'm a WWII reenactor here in Fort Worth, I'm part of the VFM that hosts the dance each year. I would love to hit some vintage shopping with you girls!

If any of you are interested in uniforms, let me know. I can offer advice, and I frequently sell extras out of my stuff.

What is the VFM and what sort of dance is it? A hanger dance? Please tell more, I didn't think there were any such dances in Texas.

The VFM is the Vintage Flying Museum. www.vintageflyingmuseum.org

I'm a volunteer and a member of the museum, and part of their living history group. We host a big 1940s hangar dance with a live band, set under the wings of our B-17, there each October.

The Hangar Hotel in Fredericksburg also hosts 2 hangar dances each year, they have a live band and a USO theme. Usually they have one in February and one later in the year around August. The next one is August 19. Our group is going down and we should have a good group of uniforms there!

I don't *think* so. I know that at the October dance in Fort Worth we occasionally have a few Axis members show up. Pretty much anything Allied goes for sure, though! Same way with Fredericksburg. I'd have to double check to be sure but I'm pretty sure anything is welcome.

Most people who go dress modern anyway. You'll see a good bit of vintage, some uniforms, etc. For the Fredericksburg dance, we go down on Friday night and usually do our civvies in the Officer's Club there at the hotel. Saturday we usually hit the Nimitz Museum of the Pacific War, have dinner, then hit the dance in uniform. It is a lot of fun!

I may be interested in getting a uniform. I recently bought this book:

If you wanna do some vintage shopping, I'd love to go. I live in South Arlington. There's a great place in Forreston, TX (near Waxahachie) that has a lot to choose from for vintage stuff. It's a 2 level shop and the owner really knows her stuff.

That book is neat, I have seen it at Half Price Books a few times but haven't picked it up. It looks like it has a lot of British stuff. I have several good books about US women's services. Right now I do only American impressions. I do WASP, WAC, ANC, ARC, WAVES and NNC.

Is that Bon Ton? I've heard of it but have never been. I am dying to go! The only places here in Ft Worth are thrift stores and most of them are pretty picked over. There's a couple of good clothing/accessories booths in the local antique malls. I'd definitely be up for some shopping one weekend though!
