Just saw the B-24 “Witch Craft” fly over the store… it’s been a long time since I saw the old B-24 know to me as “All American”. It made me feel so good to see that old thing in the air! Bless those men and their efforts to keep these planes in the air!

Any one in the area know where they’re hanging out? Where “Witch Craft” and Nine-O-Nine” are staying? I’d sure like to go and see them again!

I'll have to drop by Burbank when they come through. When I moved back to Southern Cal 5 years ago, my friend whom I was riding with thought I'd gone nuts when I just started shouting B-24! Turns out one was flying in for that year's Van Nuys air show. I'd never seen one at all, let alone flying. There was also a B-29 at that show, and I saw it flying out the day after the show.

They're there now!

They're only there for this weekend... go quick!;) I know I just about wet my pants when I looked up in the sky yesterday! I heard the motors and thought that it was just a few T-6's... nope, saw the big beautiful Lib! She's the only known flyable B-24 in the sky, you also saw a B-29? That was "Fi Fi" owned by the Confederate Air force. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know, they don't call them selves that any more... whatever.

Yeah, the 24 was known first as "All American" then, "Dragon and his tail". I think its cool how they give it new looks and names to keep things interesting I think!

Doggone it, I wish I was home right now, I could hit all of their stops and hang out in my gear...maybe even get on board at the end of the day. (yes, it's been known to happen!)

Oh, well...just have to tough out another four months! ;)

YEaH!

Hahahah! I know what you mean!!! I've caught my self saying the same thing.... I run out to look in the air and hope I see something rare... nope, just some T-6's again... blahlol lol lol

I recall running out side once and seeing a P-38, A Vought Corsair, a TBF Avenger and an SBD Dauntless... I was so shocked!!! Then, a B-25 came over a few minuets later... that was a good day!

Hey Wingnut & Wild Root, good to see 'ya all, I'll be in Sacramento on 5/25th or the 26th for the B-17 Nine-O-Nine, B-24 Witchcraft, and B-25 Mitchell "Tondelayo" all three together for the first time, hope to get some good pictures, I rode the Nine-O-Nine last year, it was a thrill, so everyone check out the dates and places near you, you won't want to miss this, speak and hear from veterans from the "Greatest Generation" carry on folks :eusa_clap

Just a minor correction - There are actually TWO flying B-24 Liberators. Witchcraft AND Diamond Lil' - Lil is actually one of the first 18 B-24s EVER MADE and she flies with FIFI, the world's only flying B-29, which is actually undergoing repairs right now...

Just FYI

You can see pics of Witchcraft and Nine-O-Nine in a recent post of mine.

Well, “Diamond Lil” is a B-24 sort of, she's a LB-30 or YB-24 B. It was a passenger version of the Lib. She was never a bomber, always has been a LB-30. She's a very rare bird indeed! The B-24's had different engines then the LB-30's from what I understand. LB-30's were used by the RAF.

So, she’s in the family.

Hondo, give Iris my regards! She's the hospitality coordinator for the Sacramento region whenever Collings visits. She's easy to spot, about 75 years old and full of energy...she's always on the fun side of the flightline rope.

Like I said, I'm stuck here in north Texas under the care of the USAF for another four months...

This should sound funny, she knows you by "The Wingnut"? :D Iris must have been the gal who assisted me last year when when I took a tour (B-17) for an older gal she sure had spunk, real nice friendly lady, I'll be sure to give your regards:cool:

We saw them just a couple of weeks ago in Dallas. That is where my avatar photo was taken.

It was an extra cool event for me, as there were 3 WASP veterans present! They were such nice ladies and really interesting to talk to. They had a symposium with the WASP and the female pilot of the B-24, it was really, really neat.

Well, boys... I got to get up close and personal with all three planes out in Lancaster. My pops and I went out to take photos of me as Rosie for some quick headshots. Nothing like having the public eat out of your hands!! Unfotunately Tonda was running a bit on the rich side. It would have been a site to see her back fire at night. As for the Nine-o-Nine it stayed on the ground for a large portion of the day. Witchcraft was was quite the site to see land. They are quite a collection!!
Has anyone heard if Sentimental Journey is coming back on tour to Cali? My pops helped rebuild it back in the late 80's and I'd like to get him back to see the plane.

Sentimental Journey

Hello and welcome Ms, glad you had a good time, I'll see all three birds in a few weeks up in Northern Cal. Sacramento, nine-o-nine has been around, tours, guess maybe thats why she didn't take to the air, I'm told she needs over $3,500 an hour to keep airworthy, rides aren't cheap but a life time experience, living history. As for the Sentimental Journey, don't hold out hope for a CA tour for this year, costly to bring out west. FYI below
