I've never dressed vintage, but I made a 1940s-style pair of trousers yesterday that I'm going to wear to work. Doubt I'll get any comments, though, as I don't have the tummy to get away with tucking my shirt in. Nobody will be able to see my perfect darts and unusually high waistline! Oh well, at least I'll know, and I love wearing them. They're super comfy.

I was wearing my green polka dot Horrockses again on the weekend whilst walking the dog. A lady we saw started calling us and we thought she was upset about our dog or something, but she just wanted to tell me that she loved my dress and thought I looked pretty. We later went for coffee and a woman in the coffeeshop took lots of pictures of us whilst trying to be inconspicuous (but not sure if that was a good thing or if I'll appear on a fashion crimes website soon).

I'm not sure if I've said this before but someone out there has a photo of me and a friend eating Quavers on a bench along the Thames.

She just stood there right in front of us and started snapping away, not even attempting to hide the fact, and then walked off again without a word.

Haha I know how you feel, i've had that many times. As well as people being honest and upfront and asking me first.

It drives me mental when people do that. I usually turn my back or walk off when that happens - it's so rude! I'm not a sodding tourist attraction! If people ask nicely and I'm not in too much of a rush then I'm fine with it mostly.

I've had people take pictures of me before!! I usually call them out by posing or asking if they want me to pose. They usually feel REALLY STUPID when I do that lol lol

I carry around a fold-out schedule for the theatre in my bag, and when someone wants a picture of me, I hold it up -- might as well get some free advertising!

Until Hairy Offspring puts in an appearance (no rush you understand William but you ARE a week late and it's very rude to keep a lady waiting.....) I can't wear any of my "new" ie newly made outfits.

My midwife on the other hand not only compliments me on matching lips, nails and hair flower, but asks me why I haven't finished my look off if I see her without being made up

I got a really cute compliment the first day I actually got victory rolls to work well enough that I felt brave enough to wear them out. A flustered lady with three kids in tow(you know the type frumpy wrinkled tee's stressed out to the max) came into my floral dept and She couldn't stop staring at my hair, finally she said Oh i just love your hair so much! I just said thank you. I sure made my day though as I was a bit nervous to wear my victory rolls that day.

The crazy thing was I looked at her several times and she pretended she wasn't doing anything, and since it was on her phone I got a bit unsure and had to ask my husband if he saw her taking pics, which he had, so I'm not crazy.lol
And apart from the dress and my make-up we didn't look that vintage-y, as I haven't figured out my hair do and my husband isn't into it. It just seems so rude, which I guess was why she tried to hide it.

I had to go to the bank with my mother today, I'd barely rubbed yesterdays makeup off before putting on some fresh lipstick, eyeliner and a dress. The woman helping me at the bank just stopped the conversation halfway through and said "You're beautiful. You look just like this old model.. oh I can't remember her name"
haha anyways, it was nice.

I guess I'm lucky I live in London, -no one notices, really. Sometimes people at work will comment. The other day I was wearing red lipstick, a pencil skirt and FF stockings, with my hair pulled back in combs on the side of my head. My colleague told me I looked like an old film star, which really made my day!

Old ladies seem (pardon the pun) to love the stockings, and can't believe that young people still wear them!

The funniest one is when you get some 'normal' girl come and ask you how you do your hair, so you start to tell her and you see her eyes glaze over as she realises she can't be bothered with all that. I wonder what they think the answer is going to be? "Oh I use a special spray that gives me perfect vintage curls/victory/rolls/finger waves instantly" Surely it's obvious this stuff takes some work?!

My Mum loves old styles and elegance but she can't understand anyone who would actually want to go to all the trouble- she went though it all as a teenager and is much happier with modern ways. She positivly blanched when I showed her my new girdle as she said she was forced into a 'gut-crusher' as a teenager, her first bra was a bullet bra so she laughed when she saw mine. She won't wear stockings either. She shuns make-up and agonises over her hair- she has no idea where I got my tastes from- I do- my father idolising Sophia Loren!

Does anyone display thier vintage lingerie- i like to display mine on a manequin at the top of my stairs, rotatinng outfits form time to time. It reminds my sister of the character played by Joanna Lumley in the film adaptionof Cold Comfort Farm.

Ah! Yes, I do this! I have a lovely old mannequin, and would display my finds on it. Unfortunately it's living in my dad's spare room until we move into a bigger flat.

Lovely idea! Mine is all scrunched up in my lingerie drawer or the laundry basket sadly.

I get that! It's so awkward. I do it with pincurls, and, well, most people don't know what a pincurl is. I have to explain my explanation!! lol
