Schatze Page: The first rule is, gentlemen callers have got to wear a necktie!

Schatze Page: I was nuts about him. Know what he did to me? First, he gave me a phony name. Second, he was already married. Third, the minute the preacher said ‘amen’, he never did another tap of work. Then he stole my TV set and gave it to a car hop. When I asked him about that, he hit me with a chicken.
Pola Debevoise: A live chicken?
Schatze Page: No, a baked chicken…stuffed.

Ah, such a great movie! Schatze, Loco and Pola…what a swell bunch of gals!

In response to your inquiry, HopeB, Marilyn has a decidedly “sunny” look in this film, far more peachy-coral than traditional rosy-red Marilyn-esque looks we’ve grown accustomed to. In fact, all three ladies (Betty Grable, Lauren Bacall, and Marilyn) were sporting a particularly coral glow.

Start with a creamy, flawless canvas. I highly recommend Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Your Skin Makeup Foundation. Coverage is impeccable, it feels weightless on the skin, not heavy and mask-like, and it’s quite long-lasting, requiring few (if any) touch-ups. They have a good selection of shades, as well. One of the distinctions I’ve noticed in this foundation is that it photographs extremely well, so you’ll be picture-perfect upon application. It works well with a little lightweight moisturizer underneath as a primer. You can find 'Your Skin' at Rite Aid and CVS, and it's very reasonably priced.

For daytime, a vibrant but wearable coral with a hint of pinky-beige would work (I’m thinking Bobbi Brown Creamy Lip Color in Honeysuckle or Revlon Super Lustrous in Ginger Rose which are both sunny, peachy-pink colors), and for evening you could wear a bit more color, say Maybelline Color Sensational Lip Color in Sweet Nectar. If you want to ratchet up the impact a la Marilyn, you could add a touch of gloss in the center of your bottom lip. How To Marry a Millionaire was filmed in 1953, so we were seeing a bit more of a creamy lip color, straying from the matte look of the ‘40s (although, as you can see from the photo, Lauren Bacall maintained a matte lip, perhaps because her character, Schatze Page, was a serious, brainy-thinker as opposed to her more ditzy, party-doll counterparts).

For cheeks, I would definitely go with a peachy/coral/apricot blush. A nice one for the pale types (I love it!) is L’Oreal’s True Match Super-Blendable Blush in Precious Peach. For a bit more pop of color, you could upgrade to Innocent Flush (also by L’Oreal), which has a bit more coral to it.

It’s such a fun look, perfect for the summer months, as well. Enjoy!

an idea

I LOVE that movie! It is amazing. What I was thinking for that Marilyn look was a dark coral lipstick like Loreal's Volcanic and blot well to leave a stain. Then add a layer of MAC Pink Lemonade lipglass. It might give you the look you are going for. It was a substantial departure for Marilyn to sport that coral of a look but it looks amazing on her (what doesn't?)! I love the orange lips tutorial too! That look is so fresh! :)

:eek:fftopic: I love everything about Betty Grable in this film, hell in most films.

I agree, zendy...Miss Grable had such a natural, effervescent screen presence. She really sparkled!

I have always loved how Marilyn looked in that movie - I loved all her costumes - particularly the suit and make-up she wears on the plane - her make-up really compliments the Champagne coloured scarf she's wearing - she looks stunning.....as always!
