Thanks, it was fun adding the details, did I fool you? The bodice is from a 1952 or so blouse pattern,
I turned up the cuffs and invented the pockets.

I got a really great deal on a Swirl from Etsy and it fits like a glove. Unfortunately the seller failed to mention that it has blue paint marks and a small hole and I don't want to return it as I would lose all the shipping costs. Sigh. But I still like it, even if it has turned me off Etsy completely.

Is there some way that you could contact the seller and organise a partial refund rather than sending it back? I'm not a regular Etsy buyer, so I can't remember whether you can give seller feedback like on Ebay, or contact a Higher Power to complain about misleading listings.

I contacted her right away and she said they normally don't miss stains, such as paint, and if I send it back they'd refund me the price of the dress. She also said the hole must be where the tie threads through...obviously that's not what I meant, there is one in the skirt. I already paid $14 for postage, and according to the stamp on the envelope it says they only paid $4.40 to ship it, so by the time I add refund postage I'd lose even more and it would add up to more than the dress.Kate O Potato said:

I just ironed it and found some more stains, after having washed it repeatedly today.I'll just wear it to walk the dog and potter around the house.

Have you tried soaking it in that amazing Vanish powder stuff? Sorry to be non-specific, my boyfriend washes all my vintage for me, so I don't have to deal with the initial smell
I'd recommend sending it back if it doesn't cost too much to do so, but if the seller has already been a problem, they'd probably claim not to have recieved it unless you paid extra for recorded (I had this done to me once; the seller then mysteriously 'disappeared').
Maybe you could try to strike a deal - they refund you the ten dollars difference on postage and you leave good feedback..? Would that work?
I have some tiny holes in the skirt of one of my Swirls, and due to previous experience I'm too scared to patch them up in case I cause more damage. You might want to consider how sturdy the fabric is, and whether a mend job would devalue the dress too much... Sorry to ramble, I am only on here because I can't sleep!

The dress was less than $30, so I'll just take it as a lesson learned and won't buy from them again. She didn't seem to believe me about the paint or hole, so don't think she'll agree to a partial refund and I can't be asked chasing it. I already sent two messages and saw in her previous feedback today that she had two cases of SNAD and stains all over dresses, but still has 100%, so I may just leave appropriate feedback. If it was expensive I may have returned it.
For the hole in your dress, I have these sticky fabric patches my mum sends me that you just cut out and stick to the back of the damage and they seal it. It works really well. Or maybe an iron-on mending patch?
