My eyes are a bit defective and the pupils never get very small even in bright light, leading to massive headache and general malaise, but I find I get nearly as much relief from amber lenses as dark ones - I don't know why. I also was wondering when amber came into use?

I bought these yesterday for a good price. I love them but I am wondering what time period you guys think they are from. The woman who sold them to me said they were probably 40's or early 50's.

I'm thinking early-mid 40s because of their aviator shape, which came out in '37. They're celluloid, an early, more fragile version of plastic but still a great rare pair. What a glorious array of sunglasses! I have serious spectacle envy.
The seller who sold me the above glasses thought they were from 1930s/40s and made from bakelite - but I have my doubts. Having worn out my nose with the heat'n'smell test, and played weighing scale (heavy = bakelite, right?), I think they are more likely to be from 1950s, but as a rank amateur, I'd appreciate some help dating them! Thanks

Not vintage, and the lenses are prescription:
Shuron copies, from China. The lenses are amber/brown, not red as they seem in this picture. On my screen, anyway. They give everything a nice sepia sort of look.
Just got them the other day (online purchase) and I wore them outside for a few hours today.
I also have a pair of prescription Wayfarer copies with grey lenses from a different Chinese internet eyeglass-maker.

Actually i'm glad i found your picture, i have just acquired some sunglasses the same as yours but the frames on mine are pale pink with some glitter in them, the frames are very light, and the lenses are green like yours, first i thought they were fifties, but i'm really not so sure, they came in a box of forties and fifties bits and pieces i bought at auction. So yes some help would be great thank you guys! x

Bought these about 30 years ago - I think I was in Crete at the time - got them from the Ray-Ban agents in the main town.
Haven't seen any like this for sale for some time - Ray-Ban discontinued them many years ago. They are called Nomads - the net tells me they are worth around £300 now....:eusa_clap
