new red lippie alerts!!

But one little red lipped did make it in my basket at Sephora. Kat Von D released a new small collection called Adora and there is a beautiful and unusual red lipstick. Sephora calls it a "shimmering candy apple red." I would say it is on target. The shimmer is a metallic gold but not gaudy - definitely a different red to have in your arsenal. It is still a matte, which i love, but the shimmer is spectacular. Online photos do not do this justice and it's worth seeing if you like red lippies!!

It reminds me a bit of MAC's 'New York Apple' lipstick and a bit their lipstick 'O'. Which matches one of my fave shadows, cranberry. ;0

Elizabeth Arden Victory Red

I have been eagerly awaiting a package for a week from ebay. You will never believe it. I was perusing the old lipstick tubes and found a post with a lot of 11 old tubes of lipstick for $8 or so. Two of the tubes are Elizabeth Arden Victory Red! Luckily one is in good shape and the product was nearly full!! I cleaned it a little and bagged it to send to 3 custom color specialists in just a few days! So I could not resist wearing it. And it looks awesome! Tell me what you think! Ignore the weird hair, just got it cut and learning how to style it!!

very nice retromama!

i was in a pig of a mood yesterday so went to MAC to cheer myself up - ended up with another red lippie, Viva Glam 1. very disappointed they seem to be phasing out Dubonnet as this is the specific one i wanted to try.

sadly, i have bought this for myself as a birthday present so can't try it on yet, but i spend a very happy half an hour trying on several!lol

Wow, that is so cool, and the color looks perfect on you! I remember reading that Victory Red was Tallulah Bankhead's favorite lipstick, and I always wondered what it looked like. Now I know!

Ooh, thanks for the heads up. I saw the red lipstick area they set up, but I swerved right by it to avoid spending too much money. Good to know there's at least one shade there I need to snatch up.

I too love Viva Glam I. I tried Mac's Pro Longwear [I forget the name of the red], but that stuff just flakes like crazy and gets all over my teeth that I never use it anymore.

Anyone have a go at the insane number of Make Up For Ever reds that just came out? I love the Moulin Rouge shade - and according to the handy best-color-to-skin-tone wheel they have there, that's one of the shades that work well on almost everyone. It's just a lighter, brighter shade of red to complement the Viva Glam I in my kit. It also lasts pretty dang long and it's really pigmented.

I don't know if this method's been shared yet, but watching YouTube unearthed a way to make red lips stay perfect all day -
1.] exfoliate your lips like a crazy person - some sugar in honey will do
2.] Mac Prep and Prime
3.] lipliner
4.] lipstick
5.] layer of translucent powder
6.] lipstick again
7.] powder again

I swear to you, do this and keep it matte. This lasts me through a meal and drinks.

I do a shortened version of above:
1) Lip chap
2) Powder
3) Lip liner
4) Lipstick
5) More powder if needed, but it's usually not needed

My lip stick lasts all day long. ;0

I'm going to check out the Make Up Forever reds...as if I need any more reds! *lol*

I received my Lipcote in the mail and it is excellent! The first day I tried it I was silly and didn’t put it on evenly and later had to touch up little spots that I missed, but the second day I got it right and it worked like a dream. I don’t have to worry about periodically checking my lips in the mirror when I’m out for a night. It survives a 10 hour work day for me. I get a lovely matte finish with it too. And lipstick on teeth = a thing of the past. I find it works best with Russian Red for some reason – perhaps because of the heavy pigment.

jillybean, I'm tempted to look into those Make Up For Ever reds...I'm usually satisfied with having one go-to red, but that Moulin Rouge shade sounds divine.

Just when I thought I was entirely content with the reds I have, you mention that. It sounds divine and I want it!

eta: dammit, Sephora doesn't ship to the UK!

I admire all you ladies who wear red on a constant basis. I still feel kind of uncomfortable wearing it during the day--have only worn it at night so far. I just feel like it calls too much attention to me during the day, but maybe I'll get to the point whereas I don't feel like that anymore.

Anyway, what I've worn is the BE buxom lips in Betty with the BE Big & Healthy lipstick in Barcelona. Just the Barcelona by itself is a really nice matte color, but I use it as a base and liner, then the gloss over it. It's a bit of a blue red which works for me.

Quick question about Lipcote--does it feel like Benefit's She-Laq when you put it on, which is kind of drying?

I used She-Laq a very long time ago and it didn't work for me at all but I can't recall if it was drying or not. Lipcote is definitely drying, especially over a matte lipstick. I only use it on the weekends (i work from home, no lipstick required) so it's doesn't cause any overly dry lips for me as I apply it once and I am good for at least 6-8 hours. I think if I were to use it daily it could be a problem, especially if you are prone to dry lips as I am.

Still, I think it's a tremendous product, affordable, does the job and I wouldn't be without it now that I know about it.

Kat von D Adora

I bought the Adora lipstick [Kat von D] a few days ago and have been testing it out for how long it lasts. Primer and no primer, how many layers, drinks and eating, etc.

This baby doesn't mess around - it must have tons of pigment in it, because even in oodles of humidity, with just basic primer, lipliner, and one layer of lipstick with no powder on top, it lasted me hours through drinks and food without fading or wandering outside my liplines. Very very happy with this purchase. And the color is wonderful - a bright red with a gold sheen on top. Two thumbs up for Kat von D! I want to check out the rest of her line now!

I've found a shipping service and this lipstick is on its way to me! Thanks for the heads up - it sounds amazing!

How does it look on? Have a pic to post? I'm still eager to see it on someone.

I love Mac Ruby Woo, I know that's been on here before, but I find it stays on all day and that it doesn't feel too "lipsticky". I'm a chapstick girl most of the time, so I don't like something that is overly glossy or mushy. I do want to try the Kat Von D stuff now though.

Hey there,
I'll check my Sephora to see if they have the same Kat Von D lippy. If yes, and if anyone needs one, simply send me the money, or some lipstick from England I can't get over here! Trades are more fun. :)

After weeks of hunting (the firsts but not the lasts in that quest), I may have found the one that suits me (winter type) :

- Dior, Rouge Dior, #757 "Red Icon"

I also found a pencil at " The Body Shop" but forgot to write its number...:eusa_doh:
