I was lucky enough to buy a vintage black & white pair from a nice fella on the FL classifieds & they are fab & i love them so much

It's nice to see the pic of them being worn without socks as i wondered about that,thanks Cherry lips

The pic is from Twin Peaks (1990), so it's only vintage-inspired, however I agree it looks cute!

I got the gold edition box set of Twin Peaks a while back- it's such a pity they cancelled the show as David Lynch & Mark Frost had loads of ideas left and they had ball making the show. I did'nt realise till i watched the extras that David Lynch played Agent Coopers half-deaf Boss. I loved the Diary of Laura Palmer written by David Lynche's daughter, I read it so many times as a teenager. Wasn't so keen on the Fire walk with me film - though I had to buy it to complete the set!

I know what you mean- he scared me- it was that wolfish grin and the stringy hair- ugh! Apparently 'Bob' was working as a set-dresser on the show at the time (but was also an aspiring actor).

So dismayed...I won a vintage pair of black and white saddles on EB the other day and, while the length fits, they are too snug at the width, right at the top of the black saddle. Tried my first round of alcohol and a broom handle to work some ease in, but still not getting the results I want. I'd hate to let them go and am determined to make them work. Considering looking for a cobbler who can stretch them a bit. It begs the question, though...

Do you ladies have any tried-and-true magic recipes for stretching your saddle shoes?

I have in the past bought some kind of foam stuff from the cobblers which you spray into the shoe then put them on and it moulds to the shape of your feet, i don' t remember what it's called though. It wasn't great though if i remember correctly. My cobbler actually has a shoe stretch machine which does work as he stretched some vintage oxfords which were way too small both width ways and length ways, and then fitted a treat, I would also be interested in any other ideas people might have for doing it at home and saving the pennies!

You can definitely take them to a cobbler if you are lucky enough to still have one where you live.

The best investment I've made in getting shoes comfortable was a pair of shoe stretchers much like these.

I've used them on several styles of shoes and they work like a charm. I hear they work even better with some of the shoe stretching spray but I haven't tried that yet.

Inky- the spray is just rubbing alcohol

And it does work great- I sold shoes for a number of years!

My Mom says she had some saddle shoes when she was young that had
clear plastic where the saddle would be, so her socks showed through.
the Queen's shoes look snappy!

crwritt - those would be great to see, i've never heard of anything like that. reminds me of the dress i had circa 1966/67 that was a sleeveless a-line red print and the midriff was clear plastic. i thought i was super hip

I do believe Her Majesty is also wearing cotton stockings there.

Note the heels on those shoes -- I've never seen anything like that on a pair of saddles.

Also there doesn't seem to be a dark color up the back. My guess is that they were never on the market, but a "bespoke" pair of saddles.

I have also heard rubbing alcohol then put on some thick socks walk around in them for 15 minutes and they should fit but if you have the stretchers you don't have to put up with the 15 minutes of pain.

Thank you all very much for the tips! I thought about getting some of that shoe stretching spray, but it sounds like I can give the water/alcohol combo a try! Also going to keep my eyes open for the foam, since I've never heard of that before.

Fingers crossed I can find a cobbler! Otherwise, I'm going to invest in those shoe stretchers. Thanks for the link! That's definitely an option
