What do you do when you leave the house then hate your outfit?

This has happened to me several times....like today, for example.

I have on a lovely light taupe colored pencil skirt with a white cami and a yellow short-sleeved cardigan. Sadly, I didn't realize I don't have shoes that work with this outfit until I was on my way out the door, so I threw on a pair of brown wedges that are driving me nuts because they just look wrong, but they were the best of the worst, so to speak. I also didn't have time to switch to a more complimentary handbag, so I'm carrying a black purse.

I feel completely out of sorts. (The fact that I had a run-in with my boss this morning isn't helping matters.) I was tempted to go out and buy new shoes on my lunch, but something came up and my shoe-shopping plans were put on hold.

What do you do when this happens to you?

I dream about going home as there's usually nothing I can do about it. Or if I can I go thrifting and try to fix it. lol
Thankfully it doesn't happen too often as I do a double and triple check before we go out the door, which must seem rather vain, I'm not trying to be, I just want to make sure I look acceptable! Haha. :)

I just saw the thread title in the "New posts" list. I trust I will be allowed to contribute...

This has happened to me, too. You know, sometimes I play around the various elements, trying this or that tie with that suit that goes fine with those trousers, hat, pocket square, etc; and sometimes, once I am outside I realize something does not look right. I hate it when this occurs, specially when I had selected the right combination, but at the end I picked something that did not fit, because of hurry or distraction.

Well, as Kitty has put, normally I just deal and remind myself that I probably still look more well put-together than everyone else . But I have been known to go back and rectify the mishap, if possible (even accepting being late, within reason) because I know it will grate me otherwise (even when I may realize perhaps nobody else will notice, or worry, about the irregularity) :p

So you are not alone in this, ladies. ;)

I may change my outfit 3 or 4 times before I leave the house, but once I am out I am out and I just have to suck it up. But sometimes an article of clothing gets chucked in the bin as soon as I get home again so it can never upset me like that again!

Yes indeed! :eusa_clap

I had this happen yesterday as I had to run to the mall to see about my new glasses...I just wanted to wear the classy outfit I had pictured in my head but the shoes really didn't work, I didn't have any others that would so I went with it anyway (I was just going in the one store and then right back home)

Imagine...not one soul complained about my shoes!!

But I have been known in the past to find the nearest thrift store and see if I could fix a style disaster ;)

sulk, huff, then get over myself. Actually if i get to work, have coffee then decide i look terrible luckily i run a little aladdins cave so i can usually find something to swap the offending item for. It's usually shoes that are my main bugbear, or else i do a charity shop run in my lunch hour like Honey Bee.

Be miserable about my rubbish outfit but do nothing & vow never to wear those clothes in that combination again! ;)

That's what I do, too! lol

Isn't it funny, though, how a wrong clothing combination can completely ruin your mood?

I thought I was the only one!

Sometimes, when I'm reaaaaally tired, I spend forever throwing clothes on the floor because they ALL have that feeling that day, and it doubles the frustration to have spent all of that time and end up feeling odd STILL.

Remind yourself not to do that ever again and then fake it. Tomorrow you will do better.
Pull your shoulders back and rock your attitude like you are gorgeous and ready to take on the world. ;)

Confidence is always the best accessory. lol

I actually hated the bottom half of my outfit today, so i actually sat behind the desk in my shop and gesticulated at the customers rather than get up and interact with them as i usually do, how sad is that?

I hate it when I plan out an outfit in my mind and when it's executed, it absolutely doesn't work out. I'll definitely not leave the house until I'm satisfied. This has unfortunately caused me to be late to work too often. I also can't stand the idea of leaving with anything wrinkled, not even slightly. It just irks me so when co-workers come in with wrinkled clothing! I feel it's worth the extra 10 minutes to press out something rather than walk around looking unkempt.

I do this too! Except with me, I usually hope it looks good and leave without looking in the mirror. Then I catch a glimpse of myself when I'm out and about see that my outfit totally doesn't work. Ughh I hate when that happens :eusa_doh:

Whatever you do, don't let anyone know you feel that way! If you stay confident no one will perceive anything wrong with your outfit, and most of all, don't respond to a compliment with "oh no my shoes/bag/etc. are all wrong".

That is so true. It's all about positive energy...I wish I could take my own advice. I am staring at my shoes right now thinking, "This colour really didn't go with this dress....blech!"

Funny though, to know others think the same thing!

I either try and ignore the fact that the mis-matching is driving me nuts (and hope nobody else notices), or I give up in frustration while still in the house, and change into something completely different!

It's a sad fact of my life that every time I see a photo of myself, I suddenly realise that I didn't look as good as I thought I did! :eusa_doh:
