does anyone wear wigs or hair pieces?

I wash them after every other wearing. More if I leave them in all day. I think I'll try hairspray or setting lotion I just don't put any of that in my hair,

See I don't either really, I think I was just lucky enough to have the same texture as the extensions. I got a REALLY bad hair cut recently and they don't blend in as well

but try to find something as close as possible to your texture.

If you look at my myspace pictures I am wearing them in a lot of photos.

Not sure if this is the answer you are looking for...but I find it depends on the wig pieces and the manufacturer. Some are best left alone, some need washing each time.

I defer to anyone else who knows more about this than I do.

Thank you for that info on the 'faux bangs'. I have very fine hair and my bangs never have that great full-roll look. I am going to buy it and give it a try.

For a long time, I have wanted to grow my hair to my back and dye it a completely outlandish color, for a surreal mermaid-ish look.

I'm working on the growing-out part, but I don't know if I can ever bring myself to bleach my hair out! Plus, I do love having black hair -- it's a dramatic statement in itself.

So...my wonderful friends purchased a lovely, high-quality, long-haired, bright BLUE wig for my birthday! It's very wavy, with long bangs. I want to either cut the bangs into U-bangs, or set them (without heat) into a nice side-parted front wave. I can't wait to accessorize it with flowers and sparkly barettes!

I used to work in a wig shop (about 10 years ago, mind!) and if I recall correctly, you can buy special wig cleaning liquid for synthetic hair and use diluted shampoo on human hair. most human hair wigs are dyed, so you will need shampoo for treated hair. I was always a fan of 'wig spray' too, and used a tiny bit of 'pinks' on my human hair wigs, though only a teeny tiny bit. I'd say the biggest thing is to avoid heat treatment. If you have a sympathetic hair dresser you can take your human hair extensions with you when you get your hair cut or dyed, and they can style/colour them to match your new hair at the same time. I have done this before, but I suppose you need to have a good relationship with your hairdresser!

I used to wear extensions when I had blonde hair, but I've found it too difficult to get a matching colour since I went back to my natural shade.

Gluegungeisha, I can't wait to see a photo of your wig! Do you have a wig cap to wear underneath? They are like a little head stocking. I'd definitely recommend them as the best wig accessory. They are very cheap and make a real difference - they keep your real hair from escaping and allow the best 'head shape' under the wig - if you don't have one you often get a lump at the back from your real hair.

I use wigs for almost all my photoshoots,now that my hair is short.Once,my hair is long enough,I wouldn't be shy about wearing a hairpiece for special occasions.I find a full wig is just to cumbersome for daily wear for me.

This style reminds be of Nicole Kidman's hair in The Golden Compass. In fact, you can even see the bobby pins in her hair if you look carefully.

Where do you get your wigs? Did you say elsewhere that your photographer provides them? (Where does he get them?

) And who styles them? Thanks!

Snookie-The top wig was provided by the photographer and I used a makeup artist/stylist for that shoot(Felt like pampering myself).The rest are my own and all styled by me.That last one was a quick 5 minute job.Oddly,some of my best work happens that way.I'm a hairstylist so I typically style my own wigs and I've the best wig shops to be those frequented by Drag Queens.(lol ,strange I know,but true)

You guys make me feel better about wanting to wear wigs. I have short hair, I cut it off to get back to my natural, but I miss being able to style it. I decided over the weekend that I want to start wearing wigs to work and such, but I wasn't sure if I'd look too weird. Now I'm convinced, I'll wear naturally colored wigs! Would it be too much if I wore wigs from the costume store?

I am going to get a bobbed wig for the winter I think. I have a really bad scalp condition and it is worse in the winter. I think having a cute wig will keep me from wanting to shave my head.

I wore wigs to work through most of the early to mid 1980's as I preferred crazy haircuts and colors but my employer did not

I would avoid costume shop wigs as they tend to look too shiny and fake for the work environment (unless your job is one that doesn't require a professional look). A good wig is an investment and can last you a long time with proper care.

Since I wore one every day I had two duplicates and would alternate them so they wouldn't get too icky between washes.

I wear clip in extensions nearly every day now. The prices have come down drastically on real hair extensions and I bought to try out for my wedding. I'm addicted now. I've been playing more and more with hairstyles because of them.

No, I don't wear wigs, not at all....

But seriously, the stylist put a lot of work into this one. Normally that wig is long and curly. I think she put a half pound of bobby pins in it.

I was told that less is more in regard to washing, especially with the synthetic ones. I don't wear them every day, so I wait a bit before washing them.

I want to see pictures.

I got a lower end wig just to see if I will actually wear it. I need too fix the bangs a little. And I am hoping a few washes will dull the shine. I layered it so except for the short bangs it looks a bit like the hair cut I have now. I felt a litte weird even wearing it around the house but I an sure that come Feburary I will be greatfull to have it. The colder and drier it gets the worst my scalp is.

I love the idea of hair pieces, but have never gotten one since my hair never stays the same color long enough! I've never gotten a wig because ones that look and feel nice to are expensive for me to justify the cost.

In my hair pieces, I lean towards the cheaper end and go for quantity. I have them in 5 different colors so at least one comes close to matching my hair at any given time. I only have 1 wig and it's a higher end one, but not in a vintage style.
