Just picked up this HARRODS Italian Silk number, and what I'd like to know is...is it actually a regimental tie, or just a faux old school knockoff for posers like me to wear? Any ex-army chaps of the officer class should be able to assist, what?

Just a guess, but I'd say it's unofficial, maritime-related and produced as an amusing souvenir for a special occasion involving individuals from the US, UK and another, probably European, country.

The last word on the backwards scroll I read as "engineers".

I don't think the flags are official. The red ensign is used on UK Merchant Navy vessels, but this one features Britannia within a strangely illustrative royal-looking device. I don't recognise the US flag, which has the state eagle superimposed on it: it's not on this Wikipedia page — but then again lots of things aren't on Wikipedia.

References to the Griffin on flags and other devices. US Army heraldic crests featuring the Griffin.

Hello, Ive just spoken to a friend who was in the navy, and one who was in the RAF and neither of them have seen this type of tie before so I'd have to suggest if it's a knock off. A celebratory tie like Creeping Past suggested.

Thanks

Almost definitely a fake.

For one thing, real regimental ties wouldn't have a massive logo like that in the middle! Just stripes in the regimental colours.

Fake is a little misleading.

I think it is possibly just a generic striped tie with a regimental theme, You do see a lot with nautical themes on.

Kindest Regards

Ben
