Cupcake, Binkie knows his blond! Judging from your avatar, you should go for a cool blond, in other words neutral or ash. Please post pics when you're reborn a blonde!

Thanks for all the photos everyone! I'm hoping we can get quite a blonde database going on here.

Kim Novaks shade...that's an ash am I correct? I think that's what I'll be aiming toward. I find red/orange tones tend to wash me out.

Binkie, you really do know your blondes! Is it a passion of yours?

"I attempted to Bleached my Hair Platinum , for the first time when I was seventeen, however I didn't realise that, the heat from the scalp, means that the root area lightens much faster than the rest of the hair, consequently, I was a rather brassy "Trailer trash Blonde" with a perfect platinum " Drag stripe" down the parting, I was studying at Tech at the time, and was wisked away to the "Hairdressing college" to be lectured (and educated) on all things blonde, i'm naturaly a Nordic Blond, which is "7" on the blonde scale according to Saint Schwartzkopf, ....I have visited blondom, on and off over the last 35 years, but have now settled for boring light brown "

HELP!

Hi Ladies,

I'm hoping theres a hairdresser here who can advise me on matters blonde. I get highlights to my naturally dark blonde hair which has its own highlights. However they are crazy expensive - €140 to be exact, and every 3 months is just too much.

So,
A) Can I use an all over dye over the blonde highlights or will I get orange roots or tips...?
B) Is home hair dye evil stuff hairdressers make it out to be?

Any advice would be very much appreciated! Oh, and the hairdresser normally puts a low-light in to keep it looking more natural, but I don't actually like it, but figure she knows what shes doing!

Thanks ladies!:)

No, home dye is not all evil, however, it's also not all created equal nor up to every task. Whether or not you can do blond at home depends on a few things, a) the color of your natural hair and b) how light you want to go. Home color uses a 20 volume developer and can only lift 2-3 levels. If your hair is dark blond, it can not take you to platinum blond. As for the low lights, that might cause a problem, depending on how dark they are. Color can not lighten color, only bleach can. Something that you need to keep in mind, if you start doing an all over color, you will have to touch up the roots more often, usually every 4wks.

ah ha! I knew there was a professional in the midst I just couldn't remember who! Thanks so much for the info Kamikat. All the signs are pointing towards staying with the highlights for now, I managed to track down a friend of a friend whos house I can go to, much cheaper than the salon and hopefully she can have a close look and see what could be done.

By the way, your avatar pic is stunning, now maybe I should go red!! :D

I've been doing lots of research on taking the plunge on going full blonde! I'm on the verge and I want to be tipped over the edge, pushed even! I want a cooler ash blonde because I have a lot of red pigment in my rosey cheeks, so the honey tones always seem to go a bit brassy and don't look great. I love this colour but perhaps just one shade blonder. I think it would look great with a Grace Kellyish cut. What do you think ladies?

I have recently ( a few months back) bleached my hair trying to get the platinum look, but I have straw-like ends, platinum near the roots, and the dark roots coming in!

I have tried the Quicklite and it seems to damage my hair more so than other powder bleaches, any suggestions? Also, with a toner, do you add it to the mixture of bleach and developer or straight onto the hair?

Thanks for any suggestions!
