My favorite Tony Curtis picture, by far, is SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS. If he'd done nothing else but that, he'd have accomplished something. A great movie.

RIP

That AND his gripping performance in "The Boston Strangler."

Thoughts and prayers...

Go out to his family. Another iconic figure strolls onto the bigger stage. We will remember you Tony, and thankyou for helping fill our lives with entertainment.

My favorite role of his was as the Great Leslie in The Great Race (1965). Rest in Peace.

What makes you so great, you Great Leslie, you?

I'm merely Leslie, and I'm at your service.

I love this flick too. I admit that it's too broad, and all over the place, and not everything in it works. But I saw it in the movies when I was ten, and was totally smitten.

I... am PROFESSOR FATE!

Watching some news, you'd think Some Like It Hot was Curtis' only movie.

I suppose it's his best known screen appearance, so that's what they're using as a short-hand to place him in context in people's minds - "you know, the guy in a dress from that Marilyn picture..." [huh]

That's because practically nobody under 40 (present company excluded, of course!) will watch anything older than Star Wars unless it appears at the top of some AFI Greatest list.

The first picture I saw TC in was The Great Race. It was probably in the later 60s when it was on network TV at night (movie of the week?). I watched it because of the cars. I was a 'motorhead' from as young as anyone can remember. My parents joke that my first words were, 'da,' 'ma,' and 'car.'

Dont even get me started on The Love Bug. :eusa_doh: :D

Its a shame as well as a disgrace that the academy of motion picture arts and sciences never got around to honor Tony Curtis, he once said he doesn't do movies any more...But that was because they don't make movies like his and others of that era. The Great Leslie in the Great Race! Although I prefer jack Lemmon as Professor Fate! Thanks for many enjoyable times at the movies RIP.

Similarly, you'd have thought Gloria Stuart, who died earlier this week, had only appeared in TITANIC. I mean, sheesh, THE INVISIBLE MAN's pretty darned iconic in its own right.

Ahh, Tony Curtis! The originator of the FIRST Beatle hairstyle! Slicked back sides and the top pushed forward. John, Paul and George sported Tony's 'do' before they went moptop!

I didn't even know about Gloria Stuart. One of my desert island films is The Old Dark House (Titanic, you can keep it).
I've always been quite fond of Houdini...

Bad, bad week for Hollywood that sadly is no more... three on a row, Gloria Stuart, Eddie Fisher and now Tony Curtis .... may all rest in peace.
