Ties with leather jackets

So who else does this style? Often? Sometimes?

As for me, today ended up being the first time I really tried the tie-with-leather look with my G-1. It's supposed to be traditional, and somewhat military inspired, from what I've read. I think it adds a touch of formality to a leather jacket too. Admittedly, I'm wearing a modern tie and tie clip, but I don't think it detracts from an otherwise retro or classic style.

Would you say this sort of look is suitable for church, theater, concerts, and other performing arts, or is it too irregular/tacky? This is something I may consider for such purposes. I have already worn the combination today to a school honors student meeting. No dress code was called for, anything goes really.

I often wear my leather over a shirt and tie to work. With my akubra CEO is looks quite classy.

I'd wear a wool, cashmere, silk knit or wool knit tie;that's about it.Anything else would be too dressy.

I did exactly this yesterday at a job fair. All the interviewers seemed to think I looked quite sharp.

Used to sport this look in the winter when I lived in CO, as did every other rep there. Looks good, IMO.

I'm solidly with spitfire on this one. I wouldn't concern myself much with its "appropriateness." If you think it looks good, and you look "natural" (in other words, if you're wearing your clothes rather than the other way around, as we're wont to say around here), then wear it.

As for myself, I've often worn a tie with a leather jacket and I expect I will many, many times again. It can be a cool look. Depends on the tie, of course, and the jacket, and whatever else I might be wearing with it. Check out photos of regular folks taken in the 1930s through the '50s. You'll see men wearing ties with bib overalls. You'll see ties worn with jeans and leather jackets and work shoes.

I suspect the day is coming when neckties will be as optional (or even unusual) as hats have been for the past 50 years. I wouldn't bet my meager resources on it, but I think things are trending that way. I mention this because just as the average person these days hasn't a clue as to which type of hat might be most "appropriate" with whatever other attire, so it may well be that whatever "rules" or "guidelines" we apply to ties will loosen (hyuk) or even disappear, at least in the popular consciousness.

Ive worn ties with leather jackets. I like the look. Dont have a picture, though.

Ive always wanted a leather sport coat. That, with a button-down, and a tie, is a great look, imho.

I've got to go with Tomasso on this,a plain wool or knit silk with a textured shirt,what I mean is not a combo you'd wear with a suit,think u.s airforce or raf.A leather is essentially utility wear and what you wear with it should be also.

College often invite business and agencies to recruit on campus and the students thus have an event that will hopefully help them get a job. These are usually pretty big with big, bright displays. Hence, job fair!

This is where I got my big foam finger from some construction company.

I don't know about that. A good healthy dose of contrast in texture can be very appealing. I wore a leather jacket the other day with a very dainty 1930s polka dot foulard. Rugged and precious, and affording that subtle insouciant touch. As always, fraught with danger of looking terrible. Very much like sticking a flower in your lapel.

I like the look of a tie with a leather jacket. It reminds me that ties used to be worn all the time, not just for "dressing up."

I have to disagree about the leather sport coat though. It tends to make me think of drug dealers and general tackiness. But whatever floats your boat.

I think it looks great but you don't need the clasp. It's like you're making an apology. I wear a pea coat with a tie to performances, dinner dates anywhere except where you really should wear a suit.
But, if a strictly indoor event, you either have to be able to take off the jacket and just wear the shirt/tie combo or else think about a sport coat or blazer 'cause the leather is going to look out of place.

When I lived near Pensacola, I saw this style a lot especially with executives in smaller businesses. Fortunately, in that part of Florida, it gets cold enough to wear a leather jacket. I usually wear my A2's with Khakis and a nice pair of smooth toe brown shoes. It looks very military but then again, I'm retired military.

Leather Sport Coats

A nice brown leather sport coat still looks good even now, with a tie and for casual wear. Cheap shiney black leather sport coats; yes can look like a drug dealer but most don't wear leather now; at least the ones I know. Scotty there was a place in California that still made custom leather sport coats. I will have to see if still in business after the few years of bad economy.John
