Well that's just great. I just recently bought my first pair of wingtips, a virtually unworn old pair of "Dacks" because they looked neat and old timey. Turns out they're really comfortable and sturdy and I've even hiked in them. Now that they're "in" again, I'll have to put them away for another ten years 'till they go out of style again.

I know this is a joke, but wouldn't that be just as bad as buying them because they came into fashion?

Half and full brogued wingtips have been very much in vogue here in the UK for a couple years at least. Lots of guys were them with short cuffed jeans that show a bit of sock and a button down shirt that is buttoned up to the collar. Lots of girls wear them as well.
The business guys wear them too, but not as much as the trendy folk.

It is funny for someone like me who has been wingtips since I graduated out of my monk straps in high school! I'm sure many of you have similar stories.
It just goes to show once again that fashions come and go, but style is eternal.
It was a nice article though and it's nice to see the NYT style section speaking about something more classic than their usual focus of attention.

I agree with Mr Jones. My father always wore them and I have been wearing them since graduating college and dressing like an adult. The level of popularity may come and go, but wingtips are always "in."

Guys I don't think wingtips ever went out of style. It is a classic look when wearing a suit where "dress boots" just won't do! John

I'm a regular reader of the UK edition of Men's Health (better workouts, and where else can you find weights given in pounds, kilograms, and stone all in the same article - sometimes in the same paragraph!). Anyway, they ran an photo in their style section of a young guy around my son's age wearing a pair of wingtip brogues (Trickers, I think) with jeans. It opened my eyes to the versatility of wingtips. I have a pair of pebble-grained Florsheim Kenmoor longwings that I regularly pair with jeans, a white shirt and a sport coat.

Heck, I've been wearing wing tips my entire life, at least since High School. As far as I'm concerned they've never been out of style. By far they are my favorite shoe style. Nunn Bush and Florsheim were my favorites, but they no longer seem to make them like they used to. When they're new my wingtips are for dress up and when they become somewhat worn they become my casual shoes. For me they've always gone with everything, from suits to blue jeans.
