I've been following the book ever since chancing across the first TPB in a local comic shop. Currently eagerly anticipating Vol 13... I've been saying right from the off that this could make an amazing TV show. Better suited to that format, I think, than a film, given that the very emphasis of the story is the one of human survival long after the initial outbreak. I won't be waiting for season one on UK TV - I'll be buying the BD as soon as ever it comes out. :)

I'd love to see a similar show set in the Forties. In Belfast....

I'm a fan of the comic, so I caught the show. Very well done in my opinion. It looks like they're keeping true to the comic's formula of focusing on characters struggling over zombie shenanigans. Nice cinematography as well.

Looks like I'm the only female so far lol

As it's on too late for me :eusa_doh:, I'll have to wait for the DVD. A friend of mine did suggest trying out the first two G.N.s (Graphic Novels) to see if I like them, but said the GNs are pretty darn good. There is a link to preview the first 5 minutes (for those of you that haven't seen it yet) on Joeblow.com... Looks like athe makings of a great series, though.

Mugwump, the Season 1 DVD is already available to preorder on Amazon (I also see that a second season has been greenlighted already, hurrah!). I'm holding off as I'm hoping for a BD release also.

I think its fun, and I like that its in the south. I also love that they are focusing on the characters and the zombies are secondary. I was kinda weirded out that he never asked the date.

I read a few of the comics but from the show was his wife cheating on him with his partner? Is that the reason for their marriage friction? I guess Ill find that out as time goes on.

SPOILER(ISH):

Lady Day, that's pretty much it. In the comic, at least (I've not yet seen the show), she believed him to be dead and had thus begun something (I don't think it was quite a relationship, more a 'finding what comfort she could in such a world in the obvious way' type scenario) with the partner. When Rick reappears very much alive, this leads to a very awkward situation. I do so hope they have the bottle in the show to stick with how the book played it out.

Oh, from the initial conversations, it seemed that the affair started before the zombies. Especially taking into account their (the officer's) conversation in the car at the start of the episode. Maybe they write the show that way.....

Very good, indeed! I will wait to see the rest when it's released on DVD. I HATE all the commercial interruptions and will not sit through that again!
I was very impressed by the production levels exhibited in this first episode though.

What do you mean? Does he start drinking?

oops, colloquialism! Over here, saying someone has 'bottle' means the same as having 'guts' or 'nerve'....

Could be. I know they have made some changes - mostly to pad out the story a bit more for the long seasons that US shows tend to have (over here, you would expect many shows to have a run of maybe six or seven episodes per season, as opposed to maybe twenty or more). They've added a bunch of new characters, so it would make sense if they further developed some of those who were more en passant in the book.
