Best repro/retro patterns for vintage styles

To all the UK ladies, I picked up Sew Magazine today because it has vintage style dress patterns in it and they are quite cute. The pattern is printed and there is a whole booklet inside with detailed instructions for beginners.

This is only the 2nd Past Patterns pattern I have made. I just worry that I may be pass up some amazing patterns because they don't show all the veiws on their website. I have been eying that first pattern you posted Lauren and the gown is lovely too.

Colette Patterns has a nice 40's style blouse that goes up to a 46. http://www.colettepatterns.com/shop/sencha

I have made a couple of Vintage Vogue and been satisfied with the result. Vintage patterns are very rarely in my size and I'm lazy and hate to re-size patters, so I usually use reproductions patterns that I can find in my size. I have never heard, until I read this thread, that they run large in the bust area, but that is perhaps why I'm so pleased with them- usually that's the area that is too small for me...

(And this is my first post here. I can't believe how I have managed to miss this place before!)

I have also made this dress in the shorter version - when I find out how to do it I'll post a picture!

I havn't made either of these but I love the collar on the first jacket and the second jacket is so cute!

Thank you! The fabric is vintage, though not forties- I cheated a little and used a sixties fabric I inherited from my grandmother.

Ladies, I hope to tackle pattern 4044 (pants and shirt) but am not sure about the best fabric for a vintage look. I was thinking navy blue for hte pants and off white for the blouse. No linen, please, but it is for Reading PA where is can be ungoodly hot, so weight is important.

Any suggestions? Thanks! Mary

Do you veto the linen because of the wrinkles? How about a linen look poly/cotton lightweight fabric:

Then I added the sleeves which I think added a lot to the look. Even more important, I wear proper foundation garments, and the fit suddenly got so much better!

It is easy to forget, I think, that proper underwear really do wonders for your figure...
