Well, I just received my first french-cuff shirt from Brooks Brothers, and what a shirt, as for the cufflinks, I was given a very special brithday gift from a talented artist friend who made these for me... for free no less. What talent!

Here we go:

Ah, let's look more closely at the cufflinks shall we?

My friend saw that I loved the fedora lounge so much, they made some cufflinks from Mr. Fedora. I love these things, hopefully the folks running this website don't get steamed at my friend or I, I didn't know they were making them, and no money was exchanged. I'm not even sure how they were made.

I am going to have to show my cufflinks. I love being a woman but adore these little works or Art. I have been picking them up right and left and know nothing much about them. Hoping one day our son will get with the program on cufflinks.

The button shouldn't be in the way.

Removing the button would leave you with a link or single link cuff which are generally (but not always) worn with White Tie.

Actually, I doubt that most people would even notice unless it was pointed out to them. But what would you rather have peaking out from the inside cuff; a toggle or a face/side of a set of links like these?

And the toggle back findings were generally better executed than the generic findings you see on most links today.

Oh thank you very much for the detailled answer.
Of course the facing cufflinks are cooler, but more expensive too.
I ordered two pair with a small and flat closure thing like in your example in the middle. Don't know if there is a pattern on the small side too.
I also purchased a pair of Kum-A-Part cufflinks from the same ebay seller. They were a little damaged but for 6€ I guessed it would be okay. Can't wait until they arrive.
If I find that I enjoy wearing them I can buy some french cuff shirt. You see...I was so proud of my sharp pointed collar shirts and now I have to start over with pointed collar AND french cuffs. Seems near to impossible to find in germany.

Now I have a name for it. See the little bullet back closure. Do you know of anyone ( I understand you are not fond of them) who could fix one? I have a lovely set but it has the bottom bar missing? Is this fixable? Anyone? Thanks.

Sorry, I don't have a clue. Is there a screw? If so you could buy a similar pair very cheap and try to change the bottom bar.

Another question. My Kum-A-Part Cufflinks arrived today and I don't know how they come apart. They are a little damaged so maybe somebody else tried before. I already searched for different mechanism but they also didn't work.

I once stepped on a cufflink and severly bent the toggle back and a jeweler replaced the entire finding so that would be an option.

It would take less than ten minutes for a jeweler to replace the findings.

But I imagine, as FFF mentioned, that if a suitable replacement for the bullet could be found that a jeweler could make the repair.

It is possible a link is damaged but will neither cuff open?
Your cufflinks should "snap" apart. Hold an end in each hand and snap them (on a horizontal line) like you would a twig. Don't pull them apart.

I wear cuff links whenever possible:

All were bought at thrift stores except three pair.

(Note added later, as someone asked): I bought the cases on Ebay about two months ago from usjewelrysupply. They were listed as "X-Lrg 72 Pair Cufflinks Cuff Link Display Storage Case," and I bought two of them at $49.99 each. They're pretty decent -- fake leather, but glass tops.

It was a good seller -- fast shipping, packed extremely well. It was worth it just so I can see them all at once when I'm trying to match the links with my outfit.

Thank you. Finally the came apart by just pulling (and maybe turning them a little). I was just too anxious to break them before i ever had the chance to wear em.
