I hope this is a good place to put this instead of starting a new thread. With it being cold outside now, how about hot rum drinks?

Here is a old recipe for Hot Buttered Rum. It's been updated in that you can use a slow cooker instead of a kettle.

Hot Buttered Rum
Ingredients:
2 cups brown sugar 6 whole cloves
½ cup butter 2 cups rum
1 pinch of salt 1 cup sweetened whipped cream
2 quarts hot water 3 cinnamon sticks
Ground nutmeg to taste

Directions:
1. Combine the brown sugar, butter, salt, and hot water in 5 quart slow cooker. Add cinnamon sticks and cloves. Cover and cook on low for 4 hours. Stir in rum.
2. Ladle from the slow cooker into mugs, and top with whipped cream and dusting of nutmeg.

Variation:
Use a pot or kettle on the stove or over an open flame instead of the slow cooker. On a low heat this method only takes about an hour and one half of cook time.
Also, you can skip the whipped cream and nutmeg if you desire.

sailor jerry used to be nice till they changed the recipe what a mistake, by the way it's made in Scotland and it's not exotic in anyway. As a Rum drinker our greatest loss was Alfred Lambs Special Reserve vanished about ten years ago. Try anything by Watsons, Trawler Rum or Demarerra

My all time favorite: El Dorado from Guyana, aged 15 years in oak barrels.
At least as good as many Single Malts.

If I only imagine that somebody could drink it on the rocks (i.e. killing all the taste) or even mix it with Coke (I run out of words to describe this crime) .....

Warm it in your hands, smell it, sip it, feel the fire.

My birthday was Christmas Eve, and I went with my niece and her husband, who live near Ithaca NY, where it's GOOD and cold, to a wonderful old country inn near them. The place is called Rogue's Harbor, for anyone in the area. It was built in 1830, quite a place.
Anyway, to make a long story short, we got there with thoroughly frozen nosies and toesies. They had hot rum and cider on the bill of fair, and let me tell you, it hit the spot.
My other cold weather favorite is hot buttered rum. Great stuff, warms you right up and mellows you out.

My favorite sippin' rum is Ron Zacapa 23; followed closely by Zaya Gran Reserva. I've attended several rum tastings over the last few years and have sampled just about everything on the marker and the RZ 23 is tops in my book.

i have some hardcore rum-snob friends that push every new bottle at me. but, time after time i go back to the Ron Zacapa 23.

now, unless it has a hand written label or is a "no label" bringback, i don't hope for much. :)

worst i've tried lately is The Kraken. tastes like vanilla extract mixed with corn syrup.

Ah, I thought there was something different about the bottles I've had over the past year or so, other than the new label. Any idea why they changed the recipe? I've still enjoyed it, but there's summat missing... likewise, I noticed that the previously excellent Italian beer, Moretti, also seems to have been tweaked for the UK market, and has lost a measure of crispness and depth, although it still claims to be imported...

Pirates drank rum grog, for good reason!

Got a bottle of Pyrat Rum XO Reserve for Christmas. Now, I don't exactly call myself a rum fan, but I really do enjoy this one. it is from the creators of Patron, so the bottle will look rather familiar. The apricot flavor is fairly prominent along with the honey and cinnamon flavors & nose.
This is another I will be enjoying on a chilly evening after supper.

Your Pyrat XO is a non-traditional rum. But as non-traditional rums go, Pyrat XO is probably the best value in that class.

Rum...here, here. First discovered it in the service while training in Puerto Rico. I want to say we bought bottles for about $2.50 then, and that really wasn’t that long ago. A lot of good memories. Rum always provides that seafaring, foreign, exotic perspective.

Enjoy a simple rum and coke quite often still.

Once tried the Captain Morgans Black and loved it, but it seemed to disappear after only a short time. Maybe it gave way to the Tattoo. (?)

Mojitos demonstrate the flexibility of Rum. A Mojito on South Beach, indescribable...location, location, location.

Appreciate the expertise, recommendations and mixes offered by all here, will definitely try some of these in the future.

Sailor Jerry's and ginger (beer, preferable - it's sweeter than ale). Got to watch that stuff, though - it's 80% proof!

Fresh Raspberry Daiquiris are ne of God's own inventions.

I heard they'd changed it. Been a year and a half since I last had a bottle, but I had both types and honestly didn't notice any difference. That said, as I don't drink it neat the chances are I'll miss certain subtleties.
