Champagne cocktails seem to be the order of the day to see in 2011 but has anyone ever heard of a Millionaire Cocktail.

In order to make a Millionaire Manhattan, you make a normal Manhattan and then top it up with a little champagne, you could do this with Mai Tai, Martinis etc.

Has anyone ever come across this before?

Any other tips for Champagne Cocktails?

Are we talking about this millionaire cocktail?:

• 3/4 oz sloe gin
• 3/4 oz apricot brandy
• 3/4 oz Jamaican rum
• 1 dash of grenadine
• juice of 1 lime

Or this one:

• Absinthe for rinsing the glass, plus 1/4 ounce absinthe for the cocktail
• Ice
• 2 ounces rye
• 1/2 ounce Cointreau
• 1/4 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
• 2 to 3 dashes grenadine
• 1 tablespoon egg white

I'm familiar with the Millionaire Cocktail but this is more a slight variation on a normal cocktail. In theory any cocktail can be made a "Millionaire" version of that cocktail by adding a touch of champagne once it it finished.

I've only found reference to a Millionaire Mojito online (they make a Mojito and then add soda water), that's not really Champagne though.

I like a classic champagne cocktail - sugar cube with a drop of angostura, a dash of brandy or cointreau, topped up with fizz.

Thanks for the responses, I've picked up a bottle of Champers and I think I'll try some out this evening.
I'm currently thinking:
Millionaire's Martini
Millionaire's Manhattan
Millionaire's Mai Tai
Millionaire's Sazerac or Old Fashioned
Millionaire's Brandy Alexander
Millionaire's Sidecar.

I wouldn't mix a very dry champagne with any of those sweet drinks. It would throw off the flavor balance. The martini fine. :cheers1:

Quite right James, the Manhattan wasn't that great. In order of preference:

#1 Millionaire's Sidecar
#2 Millionaire's Bramble
#3 Millionaire's Gimlet
#4 Millionaire's Sazerac
#5 Millionaire's Martini
#6 Millionaire's Panama (Brandy Alexander)
#7 Millionaire's Manhattan

Thanks Puzz its a cheap Contemporary number, does does the deed, and has that Moderne Deco Look about it at the same time, guaranteed to keep the FJ cold as ice, what could be better ?

Interesting. I wouldn't think a sidecar would be good with Champagne. I suppose some of the ingredients lend themselvews to mixing with the champagne. Kind of tart and fizzy. You need to try it with the Cosmopolitan now.

Champagne cocktails for me tonight. This is my first time making/drinking them, so, I'll be experimenting with measures. I got two different types of champagne to try, Christian Brothers brandy, sugar cubes, angostura bitters, lemons, etc. I'll be sure to let everyone know how it goes (no driving, I promise)!

This did occur to me and as I drink I think it would work. However I didn't have any Campari, and (as James will understand) I didn't want to buy any; but it is very helpful to know that it works.
