I love this hat, but if it sells before I can afford it, how do you think I would go about making one? A felt circle with a couple of darts to shape it?

Has anyone used Vintage Vogue 7464 (Hats)?

I'm struggling hugely with the last few instructions on hat B in this pattern, and I was wondering if anyone else had used it. It doesn't help that there are no pictures or illustrations of what the back of the hat should look like.

I haven't gotten to construction yet, but I just picked up the pattern. Hopefully I'll get that very one started this weekend. I'll look over the note in the morning (well, later this morning) and see what I can puzzle out.

Ahh! If anyone else has made anything from this pattern, please do post the pics!

I have this pattern too and have made the 'halo' hat (as this was the easiest!). The shape looked ok, but the 'felt' I used was just awful, really cheap. It was jsut what I could get hold of at short notice to get started.

Does anyone know of a relatively inexpensive source of wool felt (as opposed to the horrid synthetic stuff I used) in the UK?

I bought my wool felt at Jo Ann Fabrics and ran it through the washer and dryer. This shrinks it and makes it thicker
and gives it a slight nubby texture. http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog/...search&flag=true&PRODID=xprd233517#pro_colors It looks like they only have it in white right now, but I've dyed wool felt before successfully.
If you find felt with some percentage of wool you can try shrinking it.

How would you put veiling (hat netting/ tulle) on those hats? Would you?

I made a hat from one of their earlier (discontinued?) patterns, 7325, but I have yet to try this pattern out. Thanks ladies for all the wonderful pictures! Very lovely! and very helpful! I see that vogue has new vintage patterns out too from the last time I looked. I told my husband that I'd start making more things before I bought new patterns, but maybe he forgot.

For felt, a last resort I've used is old wool sweaters and jackets that are beyond wearing- just throw them in the wash machine on hot to shrink. If you cut them up, the back piece should be big enough for something. I've sometimes bought really ugly things for cheap because while the fabric on whatever it is looks disgusting, it would look good in a rug or in something else.

I'm not too sure how veils are applied to or placed on hats. I haven't had occasion to wear a veil
but my guess is that it would drape over the brim some how.

I used a piece if wool tweed for that oval piece. You can see it in the pictures. You can use anything that will contrast with the rest of the hat. Satin, velvet, maybe something that picks up color from an outfit you want to wear the hat with?
I agree, this hat is a mental puzzle. Like origami. Take your time, mark the pieces carefully, I hope my pictures are helpful.

It is indeed a mental puzzle - a puzzle that's driving me mental!

I think the problem lies in the picture on the pattern packet. I can see the remnant piece clearly in your pics, but it's not obvious at all on the packet picture.

It will be on the left side back of the hat, on the same side as the bow knot.This hat is so asymmetrical, there's nothing straightforward about it.
