That mens top looks quite old. Possibly 1940s or earlier. Sports? Very cool.

I bought this skirt. It was listed as 50's. Yet I thought it was rather similar to skirt in this magazine image. What do you ladies say?

Very pretty, Daisy. It does look very similar to the 1930s images. I guess that you would need to scrutinise the inside finishing to get a further idea if it hasn't got any labels.

I would assume that the maker would have payed more attention to matching the plaids were it older, but i could be wrong. Never the less its a very cute skirt and could easily be incorporated into a 30's look if its not.

Thanks all for your input.
In terms of a 30s skirt, the length seems kinda off to me, it's mid calf on me at 29 inches, and I feel that it should be a couple of inches longer [huh]; then again it all depends on the height of the initial owner.

There is a label Mis Sis - I should have mentioned that :eusa_doh:- it's Boreva Sprtswear.
I unfortunately I not good at dating things by the characteristics of the sewing - I am seriously lacking and in need to acquire that sort of knowledge, since it seems to be one of the basics for dating vintage.
I guess I could always post a pic of the inside of the skirt.

None of the skirt is overlocked sans the hem, so it was most likely shortened later and that could account for the odd length. I'm just wierded out that there is no finishing on the fabric as thick as it seems to be. I do think if it were 30s, the fabric would be matched up a bit more creativly, like the waist band being cut on the bias or something. It's powerful cute. I'm with Lizzie, early to mid 50s.

Boreva was based in Chicago and started circa 1947 and ran through the 50's, although I don't know when they stopped. I've seen a few shirts made by them and privately purchased during the Korea conflict. So, while I know nothing about the ladies line, I would guess it's 50's because I can't imagine that style being worn immediately post-war

From the little research I made on line I found that the company existed in 1943 and there were a series of problems in between the several business partners culminating in 1947 with a case in a court of law leading to their separation. I have no info as to the history of the company afterwards, nor prior to 1943 - if there is anything prior to that, that is.

Lady Day, although I am not a seamstress and haven't got any sewing notions, the lack of inside finish surprises me too, especially for a garment that has been commercially made. The thickness you're mentioning is not there, the wool is actually pretty thin.
As for the length, your explanation may very well be right, or perhaps it is a odd length just on me, fitting on the natural waist and hitting the leg at 1/3 calf. It seems to fit ok my hips, but who knows? Maybe it would fit better somebody with slighter bigger measurements:would ride higher at the waist, the hips would accommodate fuller measurements, and consequently the skirt would hang shorter, which would perhaps be more in keeping with a 50's silhouette.

As for me, what can I say, it would have been to good to be true...

I'd agree with the other ladies and say that it's most likely to be from the 50's, however, you could easily pass it off with a 30's outfit.
Whatever era it's from I'm sick with envy, plaid is one of those things that gives me a fever when I see it I love it that much!!

I agree with the other ladies that it could easily be worked into a 30s look. I'm also sure not all women wore their skirts very long then (although being tall, I love it). After all, there had to be some shorter ladies who had to take their skirts up!

I picked this Kenmore up at my local Woolworth's for next to nothing, but have no real idea of manufacture other than "30s-40s" that it was listed as. Any ideas?

persian lamb coat with mink? collar

Hi,
I hope its ok to post this here.
We have a vintage persian lamb coat with what i think is a mink collar here at home that used to belong to a relative. It doesnt fit my wife and is just taking up space. We were thinking of selling it but only if it is worth something. If it is worthless, we will hold on to it as we have 2 little girls that might like it when they grow up. the condition is excellent with no edge wear that i can see. i think its a fairly large size 22 inches armpit to armpit when closed and about 45 inches long. The sleeves are folded inwards approx 6 inches in the pix below Does anyone have an opinion on its value.

Back again with more dating dilemma

First of all, this little summer ensemble, advertised as 30's and as made of feedsack. I have recently purchased it and rather love it, can't wait to wear it. But then there is the question of when it was actually made? I had a chat with the seller, who was pretty convinced her dating was correct. I am not sure, the style looks 20's to me,and I think this is a 60's - or simply modern - remake. The sewing inside is machine done with the exception of the seam along the collar. The zip looks plastic to me and has that unpleasant sound some zip have (nylon, baby?).
Whatever it is, it's not too dissimilar from this 20's pattern. the blouse and skirt hit at the same levels and have that general shape.

Can you help me date this item??
