Well, I didn't get a Campdrift, but my Akubra Pastoralist just came in.

Felt is nice and supple, almost thin, but resilient and holds shape perfectly. The box came totally smashed flat and the hat was completely smashed, too. But it popped back into shape perfectly well.

It is a pretty bluish/gray which is a nice surprise because the bad ebay photo made it look tan. The photos below are only a bit lighter than the actual color.

The pinch is really short, but deep. Never seen a pinch like that. But it looks OK. Also I imagined that I would get rid of the leather hat band and put on a ribbon, but now that I see it... I think I like it. I am leaving it this way.

I have to say, I am very happy with her.

Notice it is an American size tag. Is this common for an Aussie hat? I never had an Aussie hat before.

My attempt at a diamond bash

So last night, I finally went at my new silverbelly with some distilled water and my Lounge studies. I was going for a diamond bash, and I guess it's not too bad; couple rounded spots make it look like a teardrop is trying to break free ...

That is a VERY NICE job of creasing that hat Jim. Though it's not my personal favorite, if I wanted one like it I would send mine to you to get that crease put in it :)

I like it Jim. It seems to me that you really captured the color . How was the fit out of the box?

Just right -- I take a 60, and it's just a shade loose, which is just enough to allow it to conform to my noggin with wear. All my Akubra 60s have been like this, except for my recently acquired acorn fawn Stylemaster, which ran large out of the box. Using the spacers for a while ...

I decided to send my 58 CD back to Australia to exchange for a 59. Thats adding $50 to the cost. I probably would have been better off selling the 58 in the US and buying a new 59. Oh well, figured you keep these hats for a long time, better to have the right one.

With any kind of clothing, including hats, when you first get into it there is a certain irreducible amount of trial and error going along with it. You can't get away from mistakes and bad luck . But hopefully the second purchase will be better than the first, and the third better than the second.

Thats the truth. I don't have a hat store near by. It would have been nice to try some on to see what size I really am. I did receive a AB Henry in size 58 based on their recommendation. Its not nearly as tight as the CD was. I still feel the pressure on my forehead but its not leaving marks like the CD.

So at least I have my Henry to hold me over until the new CD comes. Probably 20 days from today....

My new Camp Draft after the steam bash

The box was trash when it arrived but the hat was in good shape. A little time and a lot of steam makes for a great hat.

I understand now what all the fuss was about. The Camp Draft is a very nice lid

Good job on the bash. That hat and color suits you very well (heck, it looks better on you than it does me!)

Somehow I get the feeling it may not be your last CD.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the kind words Friends. Jeff, the front is 4 1/2" and the back is 4 1/4". And I like the looks of this one too. It fits great all around. It was my first bash and now that it is dry it looks perfect to me. I see another Akubra in my future
