After having trouble getting in to my MAC Dubonnet in Amplified Creme, it's now my go-to-lipstick. It seems like the first few layers of MAC lipsticks are a bit smudgy/runny and weird in color. This is my 4th MAC lipstick and 4th formula and I had the experience with 3 others. I've not tried my Lustre lipstick yet because it's in Lady Bug which I think looks more like a Spring/Summer shade and Lustre sounds like a warmer weather formula.

I've accepted that unless a deep wine or berry shade, I have to stick to the warmer reds.

I was in Target recently and saw that L'Oreal has a Target-only red collection, in a lipstick and a nail polish. Has anyone tried the "Target Red"?

I have and I do like them. I would say they are a brighter red, I switch between those and the crimson joy depending on what I am wearing. :)

Wow, been a while...so much to catch up on here! lol I said I'd post on how those Revlon "Just Bitten" stains were...and they're pretty darned good :) The darker one "Gothic" is a little dark (but great for Winter, I guess), but it is a really nice red, not too much blue so it doesn't go purple on me. The other red colour, "Flame" looks like it could be a real fire-engine red from the packaging, but it's actually a nice blue-ish red...it turns a little magenta-y on me, but it would be a fantstic Spring/Summer colour. The balm that comes with these is rather nice - it need reapplication as my lips are quite dry normally, but it does what it's supposed to do. :) Now, as long as I stay away from oily foods everything's fine, but they both can flake off a little if one gets into oily stuff (e.g. some chinese foods, and I would assume the obvious like deep fried stuff). All in all, a great product, appears to be gluten free (at least I haven't noticed too much of a reaction to the Tocopherols in it), and would recommend trying it. Oh, and good old Pond's cold cream removes it without too many problems - you may want to try olive oil as well. ;)

All right, well, after thinking about it for a long time, I finally ordered some lipsticks from Besame. I bought Red Hot Red and Red Velvet, as I keep reading things that say these are good for every day or for redheads. I have some brighter reds, but I really need something for every day -- and these colours look like they might work out well for me! Also, I love the packaging and have been wanting to try 'em forever. I'll post again with how it works out!

I just picked up some NYC "Retro Red" yesterday and I love it. I read (on this thread, I think) that it was decent for a 2$ lipstick, so while I was out for a new red nail polish I picked up a tube. It is my new favorite. I have been loyal to my Prestige "Fatal Red" for ages, but Retro Red is so moisturizing, and has great staying power - I only had to re-apply once all day and it was after I ate. My only complaint is that it bled, just a weensy bit, not enough for anyone other than myself to notice, and only then because I was neck deep in my mirror checking to see if it bled. I believe lip liner should fix this.
I am one happy camper. :)

Looking forward to hearing what you think Zombi! I have been thinking about splashing out on a besame lipstick for ages too... and what I need is an everyday kind of red as well, maybe slightly less bright than MAC ruby woo.

I am a redhead and I love my Besame samples. finding the right shade red is a task and usually when I find one I really like it gets discontinued. I can not wear all of them in the sample pack but the Red Velvet is amazing. It is one of my new favorites and it holds very well. I really wanted the Noir but it seem they discontinued it. :( I tried getting it elsewhere but unfortuantly when they went to pull my order realized their stock was out as well so it is being replaced with Red Velvet and hopefully Merlot. If Merlot is out then I will get Cherry. I tend to mute my reds down a bit with a chocolate shade lip liner from Sephora. I do have one true red that I wear on occasion. I know the lip liner is Revlon Always Red and the lippy is Loreal True Red. Which is like painting my lips with a red Crayon. Typically though, I like more of deep shades that resemble a glass of Merlot. More dramatic rather than vibrant.

I absolutely LOVE NYC's Retro Red! It's inexpensive, doesn't dry my lips, and smells good in my opinion (which might sound strange). Of course I haven't tried any other products, like Besame or Mac, but from what I've seen, the shades are really pretty.

Hmmm...is the NYC Retro Red a blue-red, or an orange-red? I too really look forward to hearing about the Besame lippies...been curious for a long time... :)

I've never really been able to find a red that suited me until recently thanks to this thread. I'm really pale and most of the time lipstick of any color makes me look like a clown. For special occasions, and with darker colors I really like the MAC Ruby Woo. It's very drying on me though, so I try not to wear it very often. I find as long as I wear it with MAC's lip primer I don't have any problems applying it, or with how it wears during the day.

I just bought the Revlon Fire and Ice color and absolutely adore it for everyday wear. It has a bit of an orangey cast to it, but on my neutral to slightly golden toned skin it looks great.

I use to have great luck with Laura Mercier's Rio Red lip gloss, but sadly they discontinued it. It was a great red for fair skinned girls.

Oh my gosh! I got the Besame lipsticks in -- winter weather delayed them a little, maybe -- and I am so impressed. Both these colours are PERFECT! Red Velvet is a much deeper colour, it really does look like red velvet cake to me. It's perfect for every day -- not too bright, it doesn't look fuschia on me, and I can see it matching a lot of my clothing!

Red Hot Red is a bright colour, but the brown undertone keeps it from being glaringly bright on me. I can see why people have said it's good for redheads -- because of the brown-ish ness, I guess, it doesn't turn bright pink or bright orange or anything. It's a nice red. I really, really like it. Also not too bright for every day. I'm so pleased~!

I also love the packaging. The shape of the lipstick, too, helps it go on very easily. If I can remember I'll try to photograph myself in each shade, but no promises!

Oh, I don't think so. They were actually very moist and went on very smoothly. I have had trouble in the past with MAC lipsticks being too dry and flaky on my lips. The Besame ones aren't doing that.

Great! I think I'll invest :)

P.S. Still would love to see photos))))
RIGHT. Please forgive my appearance -- this is after a full day of school which was preceded by a full 12 hour night shift. Also my camera is taking the photos and it's coming out more burgundy than it is. It's a bit more red than this, but not a lot.

This is the Red Velvet colour.

HTH!
