Yesterday, Hatco put some Strat pins in the mail to me. If you have a damaged pin and need a replacement, please email the store with your order number so I can mail one out to you. Please send it regular email to me, not here.

I want to be VERY CLEAR that I am confident the quality issues are being & will be addressed. My issues from here on are about the design & business decisions that gave us this offering bearing a cherished name PLUS the direct association of the Lounge & the Strat Society with it on website marketing copy!
Being a member here since 2006, I have had personal dialogues with members who encouraged bringing back the Strat. Hatco decided what it would be, and we properly described the crown. But the direct association of the lounge & Strat Society was warranted, as this is what inspired the actions in the first place. Credit where it was due. I guess you don't have to like it, but I am sure those involved do.

.... Hatco decided what it would be, and we properly described the crown...

I'll say this one last time, then HatCo missed the point that the size & shape of the crown is a key element of "classic style" of The Stetson Stratoliner hat.
I have no doubt that you did as claimed in here = "Because of the strong following and interest in this vintage Stetson hat, Dewsbury worked with the management at Stetson to bring the hat back."
HatCo chosing to go with a MODERN crown profile failed at "re-activating the style Stratoliner" or bringing back the style because this STYLE never existed. They should've said re-activating the name Stratoliner & left all the STYLE claims off....again JMHO!

I think if you look from the 50's, 60's, 70's 80's ect... you will see many products with names from the past that do not look like the older versions. 300m, Thunderbird, Mustang, Corvette, ect... These cars conform to updated style with hints back to the older cars (sometimes).

Granted but none of them claimed to be re-activating the style just bringing back the name of the model.
All the hype was on the Statoliner STYLE =
The Stetson Stratoliner hat has a classic style
I wouldn't mind re-activating the style Stratoliner
I discovered that there was a lot of interest in this style, and there are many collectors of this vintage hat

Too many posts around here about VINTAGE STYLE which is way more than a model name & hat pin.

Alright, I'm thinking the 'modern crown vs. classic shape' issue has just about been beaten to death.

I'm more interested in the hat itself at this point - it appears that most hats are coming in with a brim larger than 2-1/2".

Also, I'd like to know about the felt quality - is it Sovereign or Royal or something else?

My brim was over 2 1/2", measured just like 2 5/8". Rusty stated his was 2 3/4".
The felt feels better than Royal but not as stout as my Sovereign Roadmaster, so I'll go with something else = a better pounced Royal???

Mine is almost exactly 2 1/2.

As for the felt, it feels the same as a 70s(?) Open Road I have. In fact, if you reblocked my Open Road like the Stratoliner, you'd have a hard time telling them apart.

Royal Quality
2-1/2 Inch Brim
They don't list the profile in the catalog

My brim measures 2-9/16. I believe there is a 1/16 margin of error allowed when manufacturing, but I am not positive.

We said "vintage style", not vintage specs. The specs were clearly listed.

We'll have to agree to disagree here because tall, straight sided crowns are vintage style in my book.
At low, tapering c-creased crown of any spec is not vintage style...

Which is all fine and well, but you KNEW the specs when you bought the hat. Obviously you have every right to be upset at receiving a hat which should have never left the factory, but this is getting kind of ridiculous. The specs were listed with a picture of the hat.

You have a copy of the screen where I ordered the hat that showed anything other than the height of the front pinch of the crown?
I have lots of hats that have a front pinch of 4" that are 6" open crown. SO PLEASE point to me your specs that state the open crown measurement of this hat...

Strawman fallacy.

Nowhere in my post was it said or implied that the hat was 6" open crown.

All I'm saying is that you've made your thoughts quite clear that you are dissatisfied with the specs of the hat. That being the case, I'm rather puzzled as to why you bought it in the first place. It's not as if The Fedora Store didn't put dimensions up, or didn't have a picture. Loungers on page 1 of this thread were saying that it was nothing like a vintage Stratoliner, it was pretty evident to me that the hat was nothing like a vintage Stratoliner. That being the case, your expectations of getting a hat with "vintage specs" is rather puzzling.

I didn't say you said it had a 6" crown. I said I have LOTS of hats with a front pinch of 4" that ARE 6" open crown MEANING that stating the height of the FRONT pinch is not providing SPECS of the hat.
The fallacy seems to be reading comprehension.

I am glad it was SO evident to you from that limited about of information & the picture provided. I TRULY yeild to your online purchasing prowess.
I HAVE purchased a Stetson Roadmaster which I did return to open crown state & found it acceptable.
I HAVE taken MANY hats from factory creases that had a 4" front pinch to open crown state to find them to be acceptable.
As you have read, the brims are coming in at 2 5/8" up to 2 3/4" measurements so it is not a stretch that the crown of 1940's style hat COULD be 5 1/2" open crown & you would've only read about a negative review of the factory crease.

If the information was so "limited" then it would have behooved you to make further inquiries rather than purchasing the hat to figure it out. You could have saved yourself a lot of trouble that way.

And surely as you have read, it was not just me that concluded that the new Stratoliner would not live up to the original.

Caveat emptor.

And oh, still a strawman fallacy, because nowhere in my post did I state or imply open crown height. Reading comprehension indeed....

Some of us are just risk takers & don't consider this trouble at all....good, spirited dialog is what hanging out in a Lounge is all about....

being it's not an open crown, there would be no open crown specs listed. In fact, today crowns are so standard, that manufacturers normally don't even list crown heights, just brim widths.

If you take this new Strat and ruin the block and push the crown all the way up, it also measures 5-1/2 inches. At least with my ruler from National Hatter's Supply from 1936.
