What is your favorite red lipstick brand/shade?

Oh love Noir Red by Besame, don't use it often but it's a great color for a more dramatic look. Too bad to hear it's discontinued... :/

I usually use Vintage Red by Clinique or their Flamenco.

Wow, zombi, liking the pics (same with Tifa & RainEdayWoman). Besame is looking more and more tempting...must remember to e-mail and ask if the lippies are gluten-free...

I'm happy to inform you gals that I e-mailed Besame myself, asking if their lipsticks were gluten-free. They replied to tell me that their lipsticks indeed are free of gluten, so no worries!

I also heard that Besame will take back noir, happy day!
I asked them on Twitter and they said they will bring it back soon!

Any opinions on the old red velvet versus the new one? I heard someone say that the Voluptuous version isn't as pigmented and the color might be a bit different.

Love them all. However, I don't think they can be easily found around the globe. I have the fortune of finding them, and I LOVE the feeling of "intensive red" 45m.

My favorite lipstick has been discontinued...
It's LaPaay Ruby Red, I have one tube left. It lasts all day, and the tube is very elegant.

A friend recently gave me a tube of lipstick she received from a friend of hers who started her own cosmetics company - Jilladair Cosmetics. . Many of the products are natural and vegan. The lipstick is a shade called "Marti Brom" after the well-known, modern-day rockabilly singer of the same name. The texture is creamy but gives a sort of matte look after blotting, and while I can't vouch for it's staying power, this shade is the most GLORIOUS blue-based cherry red color I've ever seen. I'm in love.

The picture on the website, which is of the lipstick in the tube, looks much darker than it is in real life. I'll see if I can post pics at some point, but I'm lazy these days and am not making it to this site much :-/

Also, I recently purchased a Sephora brand lipstick and holy cow can you not get that stuff off. For real. I played a derby bout wearing it, reapplied once or twice, went to a show where I drank, came home, seriously scrubbed my lips to try to get it off, and I still had color on. Also, totally non-drying.

Revlon Fire and Ice. Just picked up a tube of Cherries in the Snow but have not tried it yet. I like the color that Tangee gives me but it tends to not stay where I put it.

I've always had a hard time finding the right lip shades for me. It's not my imagination, I used to do hair shows and the makeup artists were consistently surprised at but all agreed. Shades they swore before applying would look great, well, didn't. I read the post best beauty decision you've every made and this helps me most other than good health and skin basics.While technically not a decision more like a combination of a low budget and a finicky skin tone(for lack of a better description)I've always had to resort to mixing several shades to achieve the most flattering color. One color liner one or two lipsticks depending and another color gloss. This may seem like a lot but being eyebrow pencil and lips, dab of concealer are all I wear most days it's not that bad. I thought I was strange untill I read many makeup artists believe layering shades best. AND the lovely Marilyn Monroe is said to have used three different reds in addition to liner to acheive her famous pout. Finding a great read can be frustrating.. Most guides offer little help as the all seem to think we are all split in two half Warm or cool and then offer three choices, blue-red, orange red or "true" red. This guide by Raychel Wade I spotted on Total Beauty broke down tones, gave a celeb to compare and indentify with as well as a brand suggestion. Seeing an actual shade whether you choose it or a simlar seems to be much more helpful than reading i should wear a "true red". I can vouch for the color choice for my tone(Lauren Conrad) i bought and loved the NYX black cherry. I could certainly wear straight from the tube although tweaking lipstick is for me, part of the fun.

Blot with a tissue, and apply a second coat to ensure its 'matte-ness'," says Wade.

Skin tone: Dark

Why it works: Wade says that with deep, dark skin like Iman's, a "blue-based, cool shade" can work beautifully when cool tones are carried throughout the rest of the makeup as well. The contrast of the skin and the makeup gives a chic, "modern" look, she adds. Suggestion La Prairie Cellular Luxe Lip Colour in Velvet.

Hope it helps someone. If it may help anyone who like me, has the misfortune of blue or true reds turning fuschia or pink but find the orange reds too orange or too light, I've found by layering first the orange red, with the blue red on top I get the depth I want without the dreaded fuschia fade..

Wow, dmoran, never thought of doing the orangy shade first then layering the blue-tone on top...gonna have to try that soon! Thans for the tip!

My Mum does this all the time! I do too when I'm wearing red- I do a couple of coats of my Bourjois lipstain, which is a very orangey-red, then dab a deeper (I guess it's a 'true' red?) lipstick over the top.

Btw, for anyone reading this in the UK: Collection 2000's Volume Sensation lipstick in Cherry Pop is just about THE most gorgeous, bright scarlet/pillarbox red ever- I LOVE it so much, only only £2.99 too!

I am a fair bottle redhead and tend to turn red lipsticks pink.

I found that I love Besame Red Velvet too. I use it with Clinique Rich Red Liner. For a quick bit of color, I love Clinique's Angel Red. Its a sheer red, no sparkle and perfect for work or a quick touch-up without a mirror. Not to be a Clinique geek but I also love the Black Honey lip gloss. It turns a different color on everyone who wears it and it seems to look good on everyone. It goes to a warm reddish brown on me and is what I wear if I'm doing something outdoorsy like bike riding or raking the yard. My latest joy is MAC Russian Red. I know everyone else discovered it ages ago but I am a new convert. Ruby Woo turned out to be a bit too pink for me.

Yay Juliet. Thank you so much for sharing. I'm so happy. I did the post on layering red but sadly I don't get to wear a red lip much at all. . I have pretty big lips(my gbff has a vulgar nickname for them). Last time I went to the hairdresser with full on red lip my hairdresser asked what I had done. So it's really just too much for the office. And frankly the rest of me is not up to a red lip being I have to be at work at 7:30 the rest of me is rarely on par(I think to rock a red lip everything else must be on point). I have found NYC sheer red is a great option for day. Exactly that a sheer moisturizing true red (very slightly blue based, I use a warm nude under to counter act). A sheer formula so lots of reapplying but it's a bargain at a dollar. So past the sheer redI like to play around with mixing since I can't do anything dramatic.

For you ladies who share my plight of fading fuschia/ red turning pink:
I'm convinced blue based cosmetics are cheaper to produce than orange. The drugstore is full of cheap great blue-based reds. Each line has one orange red usually named poppy or british red. It's pretty much the same shade in every line. Nice enough but must be layered to be great. This weekend however on bogo sale I found and bought TWO warm reds from Rimmel that I was happy with even alone. Of course I'll still layer but I was impressed.

My next splurge is looking to be Besame Red Velvet I hear nothing but good things about it. The packaging is perfect.
