Johnny Depp told to drop the hats by Vanessa Paradis

Yeah, no foolin'. Johnny Depp has great style -- not a style that would work for me, nor perhaps for anyone but him. But he, or whoever helps him with such things, really knows how to put the elements together so they work as a whole, on him. And he doesn't look like he's in a costume, which, sadly, is how way too many people look in their attempts to "rock" a style.

I disagree completely. To me he looks exactly like he's in a costume. I don't give a whit what he likes or wears but, to me he isn't sylish at all. He's an attention seeker. Wearing a ratty hat doesn't make it any better.

I'm just not hip at all because I don't like strategically ripped jeans or multi-millionaires with holes in their clothes. In my defense hats are improving my style in a almost nobody wears fedora's anymore you kinda look cool wearing them kind of way.

I'm generally no fan of strategically ripped jeans and such, either. And don't me started on that pants-hanging-so-low-you'd-best-be-certain-your-boxer-shorts-are-truly-clean look. But I have ripped jeans myself, but mine got in that condition the old-fashioned way. I wouldn't wear 'em to dinner out, but for just bangin' around the house and such, they're just the ticket.

And those young fellows in the saggy pants don't need my approval. Indeed, I suspect they'd rather I NOT approve. I'm just some bald-headed guy as old as their grandparents, probably, who was born before they invented sex.

And here I go, wandering way off topic. As I recall, this all started with some gossip rag reporting on some woman friend (izzat right?) of Johnny Depp suggesting he lose the hats. Where's that thumbs-down thingy?

I have never been a fan of the flipped up front brim. {I have had a few photos made that way}
I think Depp looks better with the brim down in front and the last Borsalino he had looks rather nice with the brim down [it is a thin ribon after all]
I also like this straw he is sporting.

And fedoras and suits are less costumey?

I remember Ms Paradis from way back when she was just getting known in France. I don't want to turn this into a "let's slag off Vanessa" fest but she always had this faux-ingenue way about her, like she'd play naive when it was painfully obvious that she was incredibly self-aware and very in control of the image she was trying to project. Which always, along with her little voice, got right on my last nerve.

Johnny Depp, one of the rare modern actors who I find watchable.

Hope he keeps his hats.

All I can say is it's the first time Johnny Depp has made me look good.
I get some grief for the hats I have, but I sure don't have two rooms of hats.

Repeat after me: "I'm not as bad as Johnny Depp!"

Well, I am glad he likes hats, although I would like to see him in one that didn't look so rough, but that is not his style. However, he has always been a pretty odd sort, as far as his clothes go. I guess when you have money and fame, anything goes, but he is an attention seaker, for sure, and why not, I recond.

He's a great actor. Not a great dresser.

Have to agree with fmw on this one. I'm guessing that he really tries for the look he comes out with. I'm a big, BIG fan of his acting, but his off-the-screen look seems so . . . affected.

But it all comes down to personal taste. Obviously, alot of people like his look. I'm just content to love his work.

My wife has told me a time or two that I have too many hats and need to do something with them.

I'm single at the moment but given my voluntary hat clearance over the past six or seven month or so I seem to have some kind of 'inner girlfriend' nagging away in my head... :eeek:

I'm fine with Johnny Depp's dressing. Most people think he's faking the eccentricity, but I don't think so. Having 2 rooms of hats? Buying a hat off a homeless man? No one will go to that lengths to fake this.

Also like, the reason why PotC: Curse of the Black Pearl was good was because Johnny Depp was ad-libbing most of the time. In Part 2 and 3, the scriptwriters wrote Jack Sparrow based on how they THOUGHT he would behave, and it wasn't an improvisation anymore. So, imagine that.. Jack Sparrow in CotBP is actually how Johnny Depp thinks. Seems like genuine eccentricity to me.

I do have to say though, I would've preferred if he actually dressed like he did in Public Enemies. That was an amazing outfit.
