Aftershave : That nostalgic true masculine smell!

I smell something going on

While my "every-day-use" after shave is Walgreen's "Arctic Blue," which at least one gal has told me she really liked, when I go "retro" I try to use a product that would have been available at the time. For example, if I go to a 40's swing dance I will wear Pour Un Homme by Caron, which first came out in 1934. I suppose if I was in an "Age of Innocence" type event I might apply Taylor's Old Bond Street #74 or lavender water. Anybody else out there a "stickler" for matching the scent with the era?

Vintage Aftershave

Any of you gentelmen still use vintage aftershave...bay rum,,clubman ect?

We do have a thread on this topic mrtman somewhere.
I'm a fan of both items you mentioned, used Clubman today as a matter of fact. I also have 4-5 Bay Rums in rotation as well. What are your preferences?

So far, I only used Clubman and Bay Rum...I think I like the Bay rum better...seems to make my face feel softer.

... I too am wearing Clubman today and have a couple of different Bay Rums. Bay Rum is my favorite but not all Bay Rums smell the same to me. So far, Dominica is the best smelling Bay Rum that I've found. I also like Old Spice, even if it does remind most people of their dads or grandfathers.

Yeah, I use to wear Old Spice untill they changed the scent..why did they mess with a good thing? If it ain't broke,,don't fix it!!

I just got a bottle of St. Johns Bay Rum from my wife. I love it! It doesn't last as long as typical colognes, but I love the smell - totally different than what I'd normally wear.
I also use the Old Spice body wash - classic smell, which seems very true to memory.
I also just found an unscented GEL deodorant from Right Guard. Keeps the different smells from competing.

I always use an italian After Shave Balm: the "Emulsione Analcolica" from Santa Maria Novella, a perfumery in Florence, Italy. I happen to have a friend living in Rome, so he sends me a new bottle, whenever I need one. It has a wonderful herbal, spicy, refreshing scent. The bottle itself has a nice vintage shape. Last time I checked it was 39€ per bottle...

Yes, St. John's Bay Rum is a great one but I'm having trouble finding it locally anymore. I may need to surf the net.
Most Bay Rum's are lighter than other colognes. One brand, please forgive as I am forgetting which one, advertises their Bay Rum as being light enough in scent to wear in the evening, as to dinner.

I'm in Indiana. After seeing your post I found a couple of online places that offer the St. John's Bay Rum and it appears that one of the malls in Indy keep it in stock. If not, I may give you a shout.

O yes, Responded to a question earlier and went back and counted I think 27 varieties. Some years ago I had worked in a pharmacy and had acquired quite a few samplers.

I'm liking a lot of the classics, Old Spice, have three varieties of Bay Rum, Clubman in the standard Clubman, Special Reserve, Lilac Vegetal, Lime Sec and Citrus Musk, English Leather, British Sterling, Stetson, Pierre Cardin, Chanel for Men, Matchiabelli(sp), Brut, Mennen Skin Bracer, and their spice variety,Tabac(the wife likes that one) T&H 1805 and Trafalgar, Trumplers Spanish Leather and West Indies Limes,Florida Water and Col Conk's Amber. Strange how all that stuff accumulates!

I've always liked Pinaud's Bay Rum and Old Spice. Both difficult to find in my area. Used to be able to find both but have a hard time finding anyone stocking them so I gave up locally and just order online.

Tried Brut today which I haven't used in 15 years maybe longer. Either my senses have changed or they changed the formula. Smells alright in the bottle but after having it on for about 10 seconds it's repulsive. Maybe I got a bad batch of it.

I can't believe only a few people mentioned Canoe. I wore that the whole time I was growing up and I used to get the gift set every for Christmas. Now I wear Old Spice Original Scent but, I'm feeling a bit nostalgic for some Canoe.
