Seriously though, this started out as a modern western Stetson Open Road in a cattleman crease. I changed it to a teardrop then accidentally ran over it with a bush hog. Since then, it has been FrankenStetson!!!!

Finally dropped below upper 90's here today, so I gave the Panama's a break. Wearing the Bluegrass Green Camp Draft today.

ETA, only thing I found in the flea market worth noting was a Borso Alessandra in decent shape, several sizes too big.

A Memorable Memorial Day Weekend In Chicago, Part 3

Sunday morning. The skies were already growing heavy and dark with rain clouds as we drove to the trendy Bucktown neighborhood for brunch. Lydia's research had brought us to Nalyah's Soup Cafe, a Cajun/Creole restaurant. Optimo Milan.

Oyster Po' boy, dressed. It was obvious to us immediatedly that everything was made from scratch, with the freshest ingredients, and made with loving care, by someone passionate about food.

Having spent three wonderful years living in New Orleans, Lydia and I have always longed for the great, authentic Cajun/Creole food we developed a passion for while there, but could not find anywhere else. After several bites of my Po' boy I knew we had finally found it.

Head Chef and proprietor Curtis McGhee is an affable man with a big smile and an even bigger passion for cooking. He came out of the kitchen to greet us, and pulled up a chair to chat about Louisiana and Southern cooking when he realized that Lydia and I had lived in New Orleans. Already stuffed from the fantastic Chicken Etouffe, Roast Duck Gumbo, and Po' boys, we were overwhelmed with the absolutely heavenly Lobster Grits that Curtis brought out for us to try. I have never had grits so good, and needless to say there was not a morsel left by the time we left.

The sign at the entrance read: "Enter As Strangers--Leave As Friends". It could not have been more prophetic! For those of you who love Southern cuisine, I strongly urge you to drop by Curtis' place the next time you are in town.

A torrential downpour accompanied us as we made our way back downtown. Driving towards Michigan Avenue and the lakefront at noon, it looked more like early evening.

Buckingham Fountain in the abyssmal weather. It is one of the world's largest fountains, and was built in the Rococo wedding cake style, inspired by the Latona Fountain at the Palace Of Versaille.

The Field Museum Of Natural History. One of my favorite museums since early childhood. The giant, inflatable Sperm Whale displayed in conjuction with one of the current exhibitions. The museum was overrun with locals and tourists alike that day, many of whom no doubt were forced indoors by the rain.

The eerily dark skies as seen through the skylights of the museum.

FMNH PR 2081, better known as Sue, and named after its discoverer Sue Hendrickson. Unearthed in 1990, it is the largest and most complete specimen of Tyrannosaurus rex ever found.
