I've been reading the diaries of Harold L. Ickes lately. He was FDR's Secretary if the Interior for his whole presidency (and then some) 1933 to '46. He bought a home in Olney Md, not far from the Capitol, in 1937. Before the acquisition of what is now known as Camp David, (Shangri La to FDR) the president would often come to visit and relax here. Harold Ickes was a great and good man, and he had a beautiful home. It was designed by the Sears Roebuck Co, and was the largest house they ever built. It was meant to be a reproduction of Washington's home, Mt. Vernon.
Anyway, for a mere $1,399,000 it can be yours. It's a really really lovely place.
Don't miss the virtual tour slide show.
