Stumbled across this guy, The Denim Doctor, who's based in Manchester and have decided to give him a try – got three pairs of much-cherished LVC jeans in various states of disrepair, dating back as far as a decade, two pairs of 1944 S501XX and one 1920 201xx. All need quite a lot of attention in the crotch area and two require front'n'back cuff repairs...
My wife and I will be up in Manchester in a coupla weeks so I'm gonna mail the jeans up to Michael, then he said to give him a ring and discuss the repairs – e.g. whether you want invisibility/clearly visible repairs, contrast/matching patches, etc – then I'll pick 'em up in person... seems like a friendly guy, a trained tailor who just loves denim!
Has quoted me a total of £89.50 for three full crotch repairs w/full fusing/reinforcement where the denim's gone thin, and two pairs of full front'n'back worn out cuffs... yeah, it's quite a lot, but judging by the quality of his work, it's much more economical than paying over £200 for a new pair of LVC jeans!
I'll let ya know how I get on! And also how the repairs my wife has had done to two pairs of her jeans by a guy in Covent Garden recommended by the folks at American Classics...
