Thedanu, what a sweet set! I can't believe no one else bid on it, if it's a genuine Edwardian ensemble. I'm just crazy about dresses from that era; the lace and the pretty blue color of your new acquisition are swoon worthy!

I know, I feel the same way about it! As a matter of fact I had it in my watchlist the first time nobody bid for it (I thought it would sell for a high price, as it usually happens with edwardian clothes in so good condition), so when it got relisted I couldn't let it go! :-D

Miss Golightly, the dress section of your closet must be some kind of vintage wonderland! You do find some amazing things.

On that note, being new to the buying of actual vintage dresses (I have exactly 1!) what would you gals say is a fair price for a print 40s rayon shirt-waist day dress in really good condition? I have my eye on some things, but I am not sure if the prices are fair or not. I remember seeing a stunning one at the local vintage fair that was priced at $345. That I knew was way too high, but I don't really have a good handle on what fair is.

That is the eternal question! Depends on so many factors that I hardly know where to start -

Era - the older in most cases the rarer, so higher cost
Where you live and availability of Vintage ie/ you might be able to buy on-line but find cheaper going to a dealer or market near you
Size and desirability of garment
How much use you will get out of said item
How much you have to spend
How much you want it!

Just a few off the top of my head. I generally have an idea of the top price I would pay for particular items eg/ dress, suit, shoes and if it is significantly more than that price, then I either say no or have to have a serious think. I personally wouldn't want to pay more than £50 - 60 for a 1940s rayon day dress. I know lots of dealers where that would be about the going rate for my size, but perhaps it is different where you live. Like I say, lots to take into consideration.

This dress had been in my favourites for I would say around two years - maybe more - it was a little on the pricey side (it's from Holt Renfrew) but loved it so much I went for it - it really reminds me of something Jean Seberg would wear in Bonjour Tristesse (the seller said it reminded her of somehing Gina Lollobrigida wore in a movie):

Thank you! It's made from cotton I think so it should be nice and cool for holidays - as you know I have a thing for polka dots and stripes - they have a magnetic quality for me!!!!!!!
