I have no objection to it, but I wouldn't participate. Been there and done that. The conversations digressed into politics and other controversial topics and ruined some good relationships that had been established on the forum. Be careful what you wish for.

The chat room I used to frequent started off with some good people and then it degenerated into high school drama. If I went back there it would probably be as if I never left because they'll still be at each other yet. For a chat room to be successful here it would have to be heavily moderated with zero tolerance for trolliganism to ensure the same high standard of decorum found here on the forum.

This is the most civilized and polite forum on the entire web, what would make anyone one think a chat on here would be any different???

I'm sure the bartenders could correct you there. Whilst it gives the appearance of being extremely civilised, this is largely due to hard work from the moderators. That's not to say that most discussions here aren't civilised, just that many enough discussions have had to have posts removed or even be closed down.

Agreed. While I'm sure the vast majority of members here would treat the proposed chat room respectfully, there are always those who won't.

I've had bad experiences on chat rooms and personally wouldn't participate in one on here.

While I originally thought a chatroom a good idea, (I still appreciate Blackjack's optimism in the unchanging etiquette of character to be found on this forum;)) as has been mentioned

it could easily get out of hand... I am now in favour of A.E.-Tom's idea
I think a chat-room-type thread would be great. Just something where it is expected to be greatly off-topic, and it would keep the off-topic content out of the way of those who don't appreciate it.
:eusa_clap
And recommend Blackjack start a poll to see those in favour, and perhaps get such a thread started! :D

I have unwavering faith in the class and decorum of this group. I still say it would be a great addition to the forum and tea and crumpets will be served...

I have faith in the class and decorum of the folks here as well. Part of that is because we remain at somewhat of a perpetual distance. A chatroom shortens the distance and facilitates more personal communication, but still maintains that wall of separation which allows you to say virtually anything with impunity. Challenge someone's core beliefs in even the most casual conversation and see where that leads you. I already know it leads to trouble as I suspect a good number of others here do as well. Some people have to find out for themselves, I guess.

Well poop the party if you wish I'm just saying I frequent two other forums that have them with nary a problem. If your going to have a issue with people you'll have it with or without a place to chat, jes my two cents...

I like the chat room idea. I can't see people falling out or arguing really but then I have never been on a forum where that has happened!

...Yeah...and then that rue would probably reverse herself and try to turn a chat into a weather thread.:eusa_doh::D

I just about spit my coffee on the screen laughing at this! lol lol lol lol

Thats OK, then I wouldn't have to keep the weather channel up on my toolbar ;-)

:eeek:

Everyone of you has had a hand in it..... especially you little brother :p
