I love this building (it used to be a Van De Kamps). I pass by it every time I go to work. I believe it is the last surviving windmill that I know of. The city in which I live in had a windmill at one time and they took it down. It still makes me so mad to this day!!! ERRRR!!!!

I've never been there, but it has always been on my wish list. Germany has such wonderful castles.
I was there years ago. As a child I thought it amazing but even then I personally found the older castle right next to it better, more realistic. This one is sometimes too modern, strange and well crazy like the king who build it. But nonetheless a must see if one is in the area and besides there are very nice spots to make pictures. Also somewhat funny are the tourists there. This castle is a place where really cultures come together, thousands of Japan, China, USA and everywhere else with all their own behaviours. I found that sometimes as amusing as a child to watch them as the castle itself. But you also need a lot of time because you have wait for hours to get finally into it.
Besides if you really like castles then you should visit the rivers Mosel and Rhyne, both have plenty of them and then there is the wine (I'd prefer the ones from the Mosel more)

A place I like visiting....
Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County (when it first opened, it was known as the Museum of History, Science, and Art--this was before LACMA moved to Wilshire Blvd in 1965)
Although the museum is currently going through a lot of renovations right now, it's nice to see the historic elements still there.
This part of the museum is from 1913. The other wings of the musuem opened in 1925, 1930, 1960, and 1976.

I am glad that you like Germany and have been here. I must confess that I never was in the USA but the time will come, promised.
If you make it back to Schwerin someday, I recommend also a visit to Stralsund which has similar nice architecture like Lübeck, Schwerin and the other cities of the middle age Hanse. And then, if you need some leisure time, a visit to the island of Rügen right north of it. There is the small town Sellin with an amazing sea bridge: http://www.seebrueckesellin.de/ Also the chalk cliffs of it are famous spots.

Regarding windmills, this one is only 4 km away from my hometown and also one of my favorite spots. Not only an interesting and still working piece but also the area around it with small rural villages, fields and forests. A very nice place for cycling and hiking.

Had a drink at the Masindi Hotel this week-end, a couple of hours from the Nile's Murchison Falls in Uganda. Bogart carefully stuck to whisky while there during the African Queen shoot (he never got sick while in Africa, while the rest of the troop did, and he gave credit for his good health to his avoiding drinking water throughout his stay...), and Hemingway used to be a guest as well. The hotel is in perfect shape, tastefully restored a few years ago by the current owner. Of course I forgot to take pictures, the tourist traits in me having died long ago...

I can't believe that's still there!

I hope it continues to be there for many years to come. Also, I sure hope the city of Arcadia realizes how lucky there are to have a building like that (I think they do though) and make some serious moves to make it a historical landmark if it isn't already. The last time I passed by it, it was looking a bit "raggedy" on one of the windmill panels. They really need to fix that.
I live and grew up in the city of Monterey Park (which almost became a location for a large sewage treatment facility, but the residents voted itself into cityhood in 1916 and prevented that plan! Whoo-hoo!). The city of Arcadia has sort of become a second home of sorts. I spend a lot of time there.
I usually give Los Angeles as my location because some people don't know where Monterey Park is (unless if you are familiar with the area of course) or confuses us with the city of Monterey! LOL!!! My Dad has quite a amusing story of tracking something he bought online. He "watched" his package go across the country and then it went further and further north. Then it took a huge U-Turn and went south!

We live in Moscow, Idaho and once had a set of time-important legal papers get sent by the USPS to Russia. They were clearly marked Idaho but off they went anyway.

I once shipped a book to the Seattle area (where a large percentage of my eBay sales are). At some point in its journey it ended up in Florida before finally reaching Seattle!

I visit FORT POINT regularly , it's an old historic Civil War era fort and it's free admission and it's right under the Golden Gate Bridge , another historic landmark

Hooray!! I'm always happy or surprised when people know where Monterey Park is. One time I went up north to a really small town in California. The lady that worked at the antique shop asked us where we were from and we told her. She knew exactly where Monterey Park was because she had lived there! Small world!
I know you are moving to Arizona. There's a small park near Phoenix that's called Monterey Park. lol!
