Orvis Wax Cotton Anorak

I happened to notice this anorak at the Orvis website tonight and I'm wondering if anyone here owns one and, if so, what you think of it. I love wax cotton stuff and I've always wanted an anorak and am tempted to go for it. Are there any other sources for anoraks that anyone can recommend?

Man, that looks like some serious duck-huntin' clothes! As to other waxed cotton anoraks, I remember Barbour offering one back in the day but I don't see it in their current collection.

Here's another, if you insist on black.

Yes, I think I remember the Barbour garment that you're thinking of. It was called, if I remember correctly, a longshoreman's smock. I saw one on ebay a long time back. Here's one from a completed ebay auction. Pretty cool looking. I remember that picture (guy w/the shotgun) from their catalog from years ago (love his hat too).

Not waxed cotton, but this anorak seems really built for hard wear. There's a lot of outerwear on this site made from traditional materials -canvas, wool, leather, etc. http://www.empirecanvasworks.com/permafrostparka.htm

Hey, it's been relisted! And since we're having a thunderstorm in Southern California right now it looks very appealing. Fortunately, I have another Barbour I can wear the grocery store this morning. However, this morning's dog walk has definitely been cancelled.

And £100 have been shaven from the initial price. Still much too dear I'd say, but that's because I do not NEED one

Saint just 2 1/2 -3 years ago I was in essex in a place called Mersea Island near Colchester and there was a lot of wildfoulers around there...which is who the longshorman was aimed at....the point is a lot of them are going over to more modern gear and I was seeing these things in car boot sales in good nick going for £15 - 20.

IF there are any places near you where wildfouling goes on the local car boots might be worth a nose around, I don't know if there is much shooting around romney marshes but that might be ssthe sort of plce you might turn one up.

just as an aside while having a look at ebay to find a link because I thought I saw a longshareman going cheap a couple of days ago I noticed someone had a barbour international in black leather, the older type in pristine condition with a start price of 99p if anyone wants to keep an eye on it.....not me, if it was an xl I would be keeping my mouth shut and finger poised. I saw one go a few months ago for £50 or so and these are far better than the ones barbour are selling these days for £650.

The Romney marsh is very local but I haven't heard of wild fowling near-by. Thank you for the tip, I shall have a look.

I would dearly like a Barbour international but I'm afraid I'd be looking at an XL as well... And I did not know they made them in leather too back then.
