Sexy lingerie

I've yet to find repro vintage lingerie that I like. I bought a WKD bullet bra and have never worn in. My fiancee laughed out loud at it and advised caution when turning quickly as I may take someone's eye out.

I dont like the 'tap pants' or 'french knickers' as they don't sit like the originals...they 'ride up' (HBS-Hungry Butt Syndrome) and cling. Yuk.

I wear originals for living history events, but make my own from nice fabric to wear under wide legged trousers and am going to have a go at a bra from a vintage pattern.

A lot was probabully made at home , or by dress makers for the "lady" if they had means.

I can't speak for America, but in 40s-50s Europe if you wanted pretty lingerie, you went to a seamstress. Unfortunately I don't have a photo, but I've seen a gorgeous bra and panties in blue heavy silk with lace trimming from 1943. As soon as I'm able, I'm having it reproduced

P.S. Just remembered, Burda sometimes has retro lingerie patterns.

I actually like pantyhose. Well, I like tights. And cable stockings, when I can find them. They are warm, and comfy. Opaque tights (not the footless kind) are really easy to wear and make a skirt easy. I don't have much use for nude pantyhose, but I do wear black, on occasion.

Am I the only one?

Viola - i have worn tights once in blue moon. But hate them.

Ahh, my old workplace. Over here they have more of a Katy Perry "retro-style" influence, but I'm looking at the UK website, and your styles are much cuter! A few years ago I found a metal clip garter belt there, and I'm proud to say it's still going, unlike the others I've found from other lingerie stores in the mall. Their stockings, though... Not so much.

I just have to ask a question. Don't garter belts show through a not very thick skirt? I mean, the outline?
That always kept me from buying.

I wear cotton dresses with a garter belt 99 percent of the time, and I don't notice any show-thru. I always wear a slip, which helps, and my skirts aren't very tight around the thighs, which also helps.

I just always assumed, that if you sit down, the skirt gets pulled a little tighter and they'll show, even with a slip. Which of course would drive my worry-holic brain to distraction.

Also, my mother has no nice words for them

But I'm actually managing well with stocking which have that silicone band to stick (hold-ups?).

I always wear a slip or half slip too. I've never noticed any show-thru. Slips are key. Listen to Lizzie she is the font of knowledge!

I must confess that I often forgo the slip, but my fitted skirts are all made of sturdy enough fabrics that the garters don't show much.

i think vintage lingerie is charming, even though i'm not a fan of the bullet-shaped-boobs so much...
i usually wear tights; today i have on a sweet, soft turquoise pair on. but, i've been getting more into my hosiery, both literally and figuratively, and wondered where i could get a good pair of garters to hold up my thigh-highs?

I hope you don't think I'm "that kind of girl" (as Peggy would say in Mad Men), but I'm actually a fan of a liiittle bit of suspender (as we call garters this side of the pond!) show-through! Sexy!

I am having a lot of trouble finding decent everyday stockings in St. Petersburg (expensive stockings are no problem to find), so for now, as a pauper, I have started wearing tights for the first time in two years. UZHAS! as the Russians would say (AWFUL!). They never fit right whatever size I buy, I end up ripping them straight away, I feel horribly modern in them...!

You can try this at your own risk, but I actually have bought panty hose and cut out the panty. As long as they are control top, the top won't run. I cut them aboout 2 inches above where the "control top" starts on the leg, so I have a place to hook the garters in. The cheaper and thicker the hose the better it works. Since garters make the hose sit lower on your leg (and where you cut them will naturally be a bit higher on the panty hose than where stockings end), if you have difficulty with leg-length fit it might help you out.

I don't know if you could find pantyhose (as opposed to stockings), but it might work with tights and make them fit better if they have the thicker control top.

I actually don't mind a liiiiiiittle garter show-through, either. Goodness, I don't know what that says about me, haha. A slip does help prevent this.

I took mr zombi to the store yesterday to peer about at bras, and ladies, apparently he finds none of the "pointier" styles (like the full coverage playtex, bali types we have discussed before....) to be very sexy. I guess there's no way around this? Some of the repro stuff he finds more sexy, but it doesn't look like it gives the same shape. I'm not fond of the bullet bra shape, I prefer the faintly pointy more 40s look, I guess? ..... but are there any that are actually SEXY?
