Well, I went and bought a nice big bag of candy corn today. My annual bag of candy corn. Actually it was "Autumn Mix", with the little green pumpkins as well, and brown as well as yellow corns. Whatever.
Any other candy corn junkies out there? They're soooo disgusting and sooooo delicious.
For those of you in foreign climes, who don't know what candy corn is, count yourselves lucky. They are a confection made of sugar and corn syrup, in the shape of a kernel of corn, orange, yellow and white, with a wonderful/terrible waxy consistency. Utterly addictive.

Those are a one of a kind yummy treat...I sort of mix the temptation of having some every so often with a purchase of cotton candy, the cousin of that same sweet tooth appeal!

I try to limit my consumption of candy corn to a handful a year. As with most all of the holiday treats...less is more.

I loved candy corn as a kid -- in our gas station we had a gumball machine loaded with the cheapest possible candy, which was bulk candy corn. A handful of pieces for a nickel -- pretty good deal, and highly profitable.

A radio-station meteorologist I once worked with had an absolutely irrational dislike for candy corn, and every Halloween he'd go into a rant on the air about it. "What child likes CORN anyway? What kind of a ridiculous idea for candy is 'candy CORN'!? Who would have ever have thought of such nonsense! If I was a child and someone gave me something like that I'd fling it on the doorstep and walk away!" Etc. etc. etc.

Is this the same radio station where you left a "gift" in the duct work?

Yes, Autumn Mix is my addiction. I've made myself ill several times already this year not knowing when to stop.
I'm actually shocked at how many people do NOT like Candy Corn. Whenever I offer some to co workers they grimace and say no.

So, do other people have a certain way they eat it?

I like to nibble each piece, starting by biting off the yellow end, and then nawing away the orange, and then consuming the top. I eat each piece this way, one at a time. I swear that the yellow end is significantly different in texture than the white end (the yellow end having more "soft stuff" than the crisp white end).

I think the pumpkins are substantially different because of the difference in hardness/texture- more softer candy than the corns because of the difference in surface area to candy ratio. The same reason why the white end of the corn is different than the yellow. I prefer the corn to the pumpkins because of this difference.

I may just be more than a little weird, I'm willing to accept that. :)

That's the same way I used to eat it.
Now I still like candy corn but don't go out of my way to buy it.
We should start a topic, what candy did you like as a kid you wouldn't touch now.
For me it would be "Red Vine" licorice, disgusting stuff.

Yes, I'm also a nibbler! Beginning at the tip, and...I haven't had any of the Autumn/Harvest Mixes, although I'd love to again, but don't know which brands are suitable for vegetarians (luckily, some of the candy corn brands definitely are).

Even though I love candy corn I usually only eat it around Halloween as a special treat.

I just got back from the store where I picked up two-and-a-half pounds of candy corn. I will mix it with two pounds of dry-roasted unsalted peanuts. I'm headed out for a weekend backpacking trip tomorrow afternoon with a few friends. It will serve as our trail mix. This is the one time of the year that I allow myself to eat candy corn and then only in small doses. I could OD on the stuff if I didn't have a modicum of willpower.

Now...that's the way I like candy corn...only mixed with salted peanuts!
I should start a thread on my true addiction. Around Christmas time the family always loads me up with a couple of big tins..or several boxes of PEANUT BRITTLE..!!:first:

Life long candy corn addict here, but Mrs. Dan'l is the one that first introduced me to mixing candy corn with peanuts and (of all things) red hots.

Big candy corn addict here - I love the stuff. I haven't bought any Halloween treats yet because I know I'll just devour them all before any trick'r'treaters come by. I do both the Sheeplady and LoveMyHats2 methods - I will jam a bunch in my mouth, then get a feeling of impending doom and then slow down and nibble. Eventually I'm back to the handfuls. It's a vicious cycle and that's how I'm likely to eat a whole bag in two days. In college I used it as a reward to paper writing - write a page, eat candy corn
I've never had the pumpkins though - I'll have to hunt some down.
