.

to be brutally honest, i don't take the time and effort to snap and post photos of my own collection because the level of loungers' interest in such things is dwindling by the day.

You should have seen what a thriving place this section was from 2004 to 2008. The inevitable growth of the lounge and the rotten economy have had a hand in diminishing its levels of quantity and quality.

I love this jacket, Two Types!

Thanks. It is probably only from the early seventies but is one of those typical British jackets, made for older men, that went unchanged for so many years. It was a cut unaffected by the narrow stylings of the 1960s and untouched by the over-the-top styles of the 1970s. Also the check pattern is printed rather than woven. But why should I care? It's classic and comfortable and is a great colour for autumn.

Thanks. The guitar's a 1980 Epiphone Genesis Custom. Heaviest guitar I've ever played. Sounds fantastic, but what a brick!

Now that's funny as the guitar looks rather smallish in the photo. And a custom model it is no less...

The heaviest guitar I ever encountered was some obscure old Höfner model (that is I believe it was a Höfner - but I have absolutely no clear memory of the model name) which was - for a lamentably brief time - in the possession of a friend of mine. It had one of those massive old whammy bars that looked and felt as if it came straight out of the steel mill and the humbuckers were bound to erase any audio tape that dared to get closer than 10 inches. I had a hard time trying to lift that one and the string action (and tension) was simply monsterous. Playing a progression of more than five full bar chords in succession would inevitably result in a carpal tunnel syndrome or severe tendonitis. Looked incredibly pretty, though...

Except that, in this case, it happens to be true. The proof is in the pudding of posts between 2004 and 2008.
In SoCal, how common was it to see random folks all decked out in classic vintage head to toe? I'm referring to the glory days of Rockabilly and Swing revivalists.

BTW, whatever happened to 'wildroot'? That dude always looked sharp.

Pretty damn common back then, especially around '97. In the streets and on the town, day or night. Furthermore, Southern California had a good number of venues in which to wear the stuff: the Hollywood Athletic Club on Lindy nights, The Derby (every night of the week), etc., etc. The down side was that dancers would wear great vintage while doing their strenuous moves, and the clothes would get torn to pieces.

Same here in the Bay. The cool thing was they/we didn't look out of place. It just made the scenery better. Whenever I saw a fella decked out in kitschy 50s gabardine or a fine lass in a 40s skirt suit, pumps, and seamed stockings, it brightened my day.

I remember Wildroot from my lurking days on the lounge. I was pleasantly surprised to see folks like you who stayed true to what really had transcended fashion. When the swing scene died I realized it was just a fad for many if not most. At least the clothes got recycled.

The other night after Janet Klein's show... I look half-asleep, but all my other recent flash photos make me look COMPLETELY asleep...
Jaxon cap, Chereskin sweater vest, "George" slacks (from when they offered some with patterns.)
My friends come off looking better, but I don't hold a grudge!

California is where I started to dress up again and where I learned to swing dance! With retro stores like Flashback in San Diego and Encinitas, there was a good mix of vintage attire readily available. I am finding though that through my sweetie's influence as well as to the climate here in Vermont, that I am preferring now felt bowlers and fedoras to the lovely pillbox hats. Here's a pic of one of my best finds this summer, two vintage bowlers for $10 with boxes at an antique store in NY. Enjoy wearing your favorite vintage!

Kilted Theme

Well, seeing how there has been some interest in kilts lately, here's one of me on my way to a military mess dinner. I belong to a highland regiment; hence the kilt.
