I'm sure someone out there can help me with this!
I'm looking to purchase an authentic WWII or pre WWII USN style watch cap. I can find plenty online that are of the Army Navy store variety that cost under $5, but I feel that something is missing from those. When taking the repro route, Speedway from Japan has a nice looking one, but at $79, I just had to pass.
I do want a repro, but possibly more from the reenacting world that won't cost an arm and a leg.
Who can help me?

At the Front has them in OD. HPA/Eastman also sells an OD version. Funny I just picked up an OD for a buck at the goodwill. Not 100% wool but not 79.00 either!

I'm curious what is found in this department. Years back I was looking for one and in a pinch I bought a very nice Cahart cap. Very happy with it. But the knit is completely wrong for WW2/Navy AND it has a big tag on the outside that says Carhart. Nice cap, just not what I was or you are looking for.

Here's an interesting watch cap for $15 (free shipping)! Merino wool, not bulky, 5 solid color options.

The current issue caps are thick and bulky and double layered. The WW2-Korea ones offer a single layer flat stitched crown, finer 2x2 (maybe 1x1) knit ribbing in single ply, and a rib-rack style of weave on the sealing edge -- lots of nice details. Not worth hundreds of dollars IMO but hey . .. Buzz has gotta sell to SOMEONE.
