I don't know the name of the shop. It seems like one of those places where it is worth trawling the rails, just in the hope that amidst the utterly un-salvageable, there might be a genuine gem. It is next to CND at 162 Holloway Road. I tried to look it up on the the web, but found more than one shop named at that location, London Vintage Store being one (but that doesn't seem right to me?). This link doesn't even seem to name the shop:

I also found a four pocket, belted back jacket (with a 1949 label) for £10. But that is slightly moth damaged and needs a really good clean and some reshaping. It doesn't fit and isn't my style, but I couldn't resist buying it, if only to save it for someone who will appreciate it.

I know that shop on Holloway Road, I always thought it was a CND owned shop. There are some gems to be had there too- I found a great trench coat there a few years back, as well as a beautiful brown leather briefcase.

A very decently made '60s does '30s jacket. It has the post-'62 Union Label in it. At first I was dismayed because it seemed too big, but then I realized at some point the previous owner had the buttons moved inwards for more room. Using the interior button I was able to see where the buttons were originally placed, and saw that it actually fit quite well, so this ones a keeper. It has a center vent which I heard is not usual for double breasted jackets.

What can I say? There is nothing like a stroke of good fortune when looking for vintage clothing. One good jacket on a rack of 200 moth eaten rags.
Plus, I spotted the store by accident when I was in an area I never normally frequent.
Just keep searching!

I have two vintage (30s/40s) DB suits which both only have one lapel buttonhole. One's from Australia and one from the States. As far as I'm aware the trend was more common in the 80s and 90s though.

That's interesting. I imagine the main way to tell the difference would be to see if the buttonhole is functional.

No label union made "flecked" jacket. I'm not sure if I'd call it atomic fleck, but it's flecks are interestingly weaved into the fabric.

I dig that crazy plaid number with the maple leaf buttons, and also the jacket with the Nova Scotia crest. I don't usually go to Halifax when traveling to NS, we usually head straight to Cape Breton. This makes me want to make the thrift store/junk store/antique store rounds up north.

Orphaned suit jacket. It lacks a union label but I'm guessing it's from the late '40s from color, ventless back, slanted breast pocket, lapel shape, and functional lapel buttonhole. Anyone more experienced want to take a guess?

I just got this one from 'Ede & Ravenscroft' on Chancery Lane in London. I think I'll be waiting until summer till I wear this one. It was a genuine sale bargain: reduced from around £300 to £95. It was from last summer's range of 'boating blazers'.
