Yeah, he was a bit of a hippie, but I'm a big fan of his. He's on his Farewell tour right now and was just in Milwaukee at the Pabst Theatre.

Well, the Boswell Sisters did record a song titled "Rock and Roll" in 1933 -- but it wasn't quite the same thing!

Me too. Thanks to this thread I looked it up. Never heard of it before but it is called "The Poor People of Paris". I always wondered how they name instrumentals. I have heard the tune before. Don't think too much of it though.

Raunchy (the Ernie Freeman version) was #1 on the R&B charts.

There were three versions of Raunchy released in 1957 (I think Freeman's version was the, uh, raunchiest); all of them charted.
